1. Discuss comprehensively The Data Privacy Act.

The Data Privacy Act (DPA) of the Philippines, enacted in 2012, is a comprehensive
legal framework that safeguards the rights of individuals concerning their personal
information. The DPA applies to both government and private entities engaged in the
processing of personal data, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and security.

Under the DPA, personal data refers to any information that identifies an individual,
including sensitive personal information. The legislation establishes principles governing
the lawful processing of data, such as the necessity of consent, the purpose limitation,
and data subject rights. These rights empower individuals to control and manage their
personal information.

Organizations are required to implement security measures to protect personal data

against unauthorized access, disclosure, and alteration. The National Privacy
Commission (NPC) serves as the regulatory body, tasked with enforcing the DPA,
conducting investigations, and promoting awareness.

Importantly, the DPA addresses cross-border data transfers, imposing restrictions to

ensure that data leaving the Philippines is adequately protected. The NPC has the
authority to impose penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for non-compliance,
reinforcing the seriousness of data protection.

In essence, the Data Privacy Act establishes a robust framework that not only
safeguards individual privacy but also promotes responsible data stewardship in the
digital age, fostering a culture of respect for personal information and data security.
2. You belong to a group on Facebook that is a closed group that includes you and your
student peer group. The idea of the group is to share experiences and learn from and
support each other. You increasingly note, however, that posts from a small group of
students on the site are becoming persistently derogatory. These posts range from
derogatory comments about patients to negative comments about lecturers. As an
Augustinian student nurse, how will you react to and manage this behavior? What, if
anything, would you do about it?

As an Augustinian student nurse, I would address this behavior by initiating a respectful

discussion within the group, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive and
supportive environment. If the derogatory posts persist, I would consider reporting the
inappropriate content to the group administrator or relevant authorities within the
academic institution. It's essential to uphold the values of respect and compassion in
fostering a conducive learning environment for all members.
