 Summary
Food insecurity in Barbados has always been a pressing issue, though within the
last 3 years due to the Covid 19 Pandemic it has gotten noticeably worse. The pandemic
opened the eyes of most to the issue at hand when importations were cut off
temporarily leaving the island with little food resources at such a crucial time. This
proposal seeks to implement an informational awareness campaign for young adults
ages 18-22, who are now capable of making their own buying decisions to support local
farmers to reduce food insecurity within the island. By purchasing locally farmed goods,
this gives those local farmers the support they need to grow, whether it be in the form of
producing more crops or producing them at competitive costs compared to imported
goods.
