vascular malformations in SMBBIT, Karachi.

BACKGROUND

Often present at birth but may appear later in life


Becomes symptomatic and causes functional or cosmetic problems.
Divided into slow-flow (capillary malformation, venous malformation,
lymphatic malformation)
And fast-flow (arteriovenous malformation and AV fistula).

METHOD

Retrospective descriptive study


From April 2022 to November 2023

low flow 90%


high flow 10%

RESULTS

HYPERTROPHIC SCAR

0% RECURRENCE
in 1.5 years
9.1%

PARTIAL NECROSIS
27.3%

PATIENT SYMPTOMATIC BETTER MINOR

OUTCOME

CONCLUSION
Vascular malformations require proper diagnosis, good surgical planning and involvement of
multidisciplinary team for adequate and safe resection in good functional and aesthetic outcome.
The treatment should aim at symptomatic control and improvement of patient's quality of life.
