Installing the OP Training Project
A project has been provided for your convenience. You will need to unzip this project onto the C:\ drive.

1. Make sure all applications are closed.


2. Unzip OPM_Metric_TRNC03238-10008.zip to a temporary directory. Make sure the User Folder Names box is selected.
3. Locate the file Data_Set_08.zip in your temporary directory.
4. Click Unzip. The contents of this file to will be unzipped to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenPlant CONNECT
Edition\Configuration\Workspaces\WorkSpace\WorkSets\OpenPlantMetric\WorkFiles\Models\Modeler\OP_Training\WorkFiles\M
odels. directory.
Getting Started Referencing the Equipment
In this section, we will open the OpenPlant design file OPM_CONNECT_Edition_Training.dgn and route pipelines in
between pieces of equipment.

1. Launch OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition.


2. Browse to the OP Working Model folder and open theOPM_CONNECT_Edition_Training.dgn file.Open the
OPM_CONNECT_Edition_Training.dgn file.

 In this exercise we will reference the equipment into OPM_CONNECT_Edition_Training.dgn.

3. Open References.
4. Click Attach Reference.
5. Highlight MECHANICAL_M_CONNECT.i.dgn.
6. Select Coincident then click Open.
7. All references should include the following.

Routing Pipeline HTF-P-L110-A1-OPM
In this exercise we will route pipeline HTF-P-L110-A1-OPM.

1. Select the Piping tab.


2. From Piping Ribbon locate Piping Network > select Create >
3. On the Associations tab, select HTF from the Unit drop down list and select P from the Service list.

4. Then select the (+) plus sign for Plant Area to add Area and select Save.
5. Select the Properties tab.
6. Type L110 in the Number field. Select mA1-OPM from the Specification field and select 300mm from the Nominal Diameter field.

8. Zoom your ISO view so that it is similar to the image below.

9. In the Standard Preferences dialog, change Nominal Diameter to 200.

10. From the Piping Gallery tool box, click Valves and, from the Component Gallery select GATE place an 200 on top of the nozzle on the
Heat Exchanger EX-101A.

11. When the Spec Selection dialog opens, click OK.

 Note: This dialog opens any time there is more than one possible selection in the specification. In this case, there is more than one
Gate Valve class to choose from (Gate Valve and Knife Gate Valve).

12. In the Place Component dialog, change the Number field to 89.

13. To place the valve, click a data point on the top center of the nozzle. When prompted, select both bolts and gaskets, clicking OK each time
you are asked. When prompted to locate the operator, rotate it perpendicular to the exchanger for better access.

 Note: to end place gate valve command right click to exit.

14. From the Flanges task menu, click Weldneck then place the flange on top of the valve and once again select Bolts and Gaskets.
15. Next, change the Nominal Diameter back to 300 in the Standard Preferences dialog.

16. From the Reducers task menu click Concentric Reducer from the task menu. Select the 300,200 reducer from the list presented.

17. In the Place Component dialog, change the Placement Point: to the Run_Port. Place the reducer on top of the weld neck flange.

 Note: The Main_Port is always the bigger size and the Run_Port is the smaller size. If you go straight to pipe, the reducer is
automatically placed.

18. From Component Gallery select Pipe from the task menu.
19. Click the top of the reducer to begin placement, this will begin the dialog box from the spec.
20. Select the Schedule 40 pipe from the list provided.

21. Drag your mouse straight up, press Enter to lock the direction. Next, type 2743. and then click a data point to place the pipe.

22. Type T to rotate AccuDraw to the Top orientation. Drag your mouse to the West or Left, press Enter to lock the direction. Then, click a
data point on the top of the nozzle on top of R-100.

23. Drag your mouse towards the vessel and once again press Enter to lock the direction. Again, click on the top of the nozzle to define the
length.
24. Right click to exit the pipe command.

25. Place a Weld Neck Flange on the nozzle. Select Bolts and Gaskets.

26. To finish the pipe line select Pipe, then select end point of the current pipeline.
27. Select the Schedule 40 pipe from the list provided.
28. Rotate AccuDraw to face downward by keying in F, and connect to the gasket you just placed.

Pipeline HTF-P-L130-A1-OPM
In this exercise we will route pipeline HTF-P-L130-A1-OPM.

1. From the Piping task menu, pick Create Pipeline.


2. On the Associations tab, pick HTF from the Unit field, P from the Service field. and Area for Plant Area.

3. On the Properties tab, enter L130 in the Number field.


4. Select mA1-OPM from the Specification field and

5. Set the Nominal Diameter to 250mm.. Click Save.

6. At this point open References then right click on MECHANICAL_M_Model.i.dgn.and select Presentation from the drop-down

7. Then change the Display style to Transparent Modeling and select OK.

 Note: Make sure that the overall model display style in Illustration: With Shadows other wise the referenced file might not change it’s
presentation.

8. The ISO view should resemble the following when locating V-100 and the south end of EX-101A.

10. In the Standard Preferences dialog, change the Nominal Diameter to 200”and place a Weld Neck Flange on the top of the nozzle,
Gaskets and bolts will automatically be placed with the flange.

11. Reset the Nominal Diameter back to 250mm.


12. Select Reducers from the Piping Galleries buttons.

13. Click Concentric Reducer and select the 250,200 reducer.

14. In the Place Component dialog, change the Placement Point: to Run_Port.

15. Place the reducer on top of the weld neck just placed.

16. Place another Weld Neck Flange on top of the reducer. Notice that the flange automatically connects the correct port to the reducer.

17. Place a 250mm Gate Valve on top of the weld neck flange.
18. When the Spec Selection dialog opens, click OK.

Note: This dialog opens any time there is more than one possible selection in the specification. In this case, there is more than one Gate
Valve class to choose from (Gate Valve and Knife Gate Valve).

19. Verify that the Number property now has the number 90 in the Place Component dialog under Tag Information.

20. Rotate the hand-wheel perpendicular to the heat exchanger for accessibility.
21. Place a Weldneck Flange on the top end of the Gate Valve.

22. Click Elbows from the piping galleries.

23. Select Pipe Elbow 90 Degree Long Radios 250mm.

24. Select OK to place elbow on center of the flange.


25. Rotate the elbow to face East.

26. Select pipe from Piping Galleries and select pipe from Component Galleries.

27. Select Pipe 10, Schedule 40 then OK.

28. Select the end of the elbow to begin drawing the pipe.

30. Type T to rotate the AccuDraw compass to the Top view. Drag your mouse to the East and press Enter to lock the direction.Then use
AccuDraw to accept the placement in the center of the nozzle below.

31. Change your view to the Top view.

32. Drag your mouse to the North, press Enter, hover your mouse over the center of the vessel and click a data point to accept.

33. Rotate your view to the Back to get a better perspective.


34. Type S to rotate the AccuDraw compass to the side and drag your mouse down. Press Enter to lock the direction.

35. Select the center of the Nozzle and select a data point to place the pipe in the center of the nozzle.

36. Before connecting to the Nozzle place another Weld Neck Flange on the Nozzle. Select the Gasket and Bolts for the connection.

Placing a Valve
Continuing with pipeline L130, we will now place a gate valve in the line just before the nozzle.

1. Select Gate Valve.


2. Change Placement Point to Other, then place the valve at the mid-point of the pipe, select Bolts and Gaskets for both sets of flanges to
complete placement of the valve.

Using PID Data in your 3D Modeling Session
Having the ability to use PID data in a modeling session is a powerful tool. This allows you to verify that all pipelines and tagged items in the
PID’s have been accounted for in the 3D environment. This exercise will demonstrate one such use for the PID data.

1. Open References
2. .Click Attach Reference.
3. Select PID_2020_M_Training..dgni.dgn.
4. Click Add and choose Coincident from the Attachment Mode: field.
5. The result should be the following files listed below.

6. Open Explorer.

7. Once complete notice that Consistency Checker is now available for use in checking the tags in the PID Equipment, to make sure that
they are inside the 3D model.

8. Window into the PID. In the next exercise, we will route pipeline HTF-P-L2020-mA1-OPM. This pipeline appears in the lower right corner
of the full PID from EX-101 to EX-103.

9. In the Consistency Checker window of the Item Browser, open the Service, System and Unit trees to notice how items appear from the
PID.

Items with a green check mark are in both the PID and the 3D model. Items which are red in color do not exist in the 3D model. Any item
which is blue in color has property values which do not match between the PID and the model. Items with a yellow triangle are in both
files, but do not match. These should be investigated to be sure that the mismatches are confirmed and approved.

10. In the Pipeline tree, locate pipeline HTF-P-L2020-mA1-OPM. Right-click on the pipeline and select Create Pipeline.

You will now notice two things. First, the pipeline turns to green with a check mark and second you will see that the Standard Preferences
dialog now displays the pipeline as the current pipeline. Any tagged item may be created this way.

 Note: The specification and properties were inherited from the PID.

Route Pipeline HTF-P-L2020-mA1-OPM
In this exercise we will route pipeline HTF-P-L2020-mA1-OPM.

1. Zoom in to see the heat exchangers EX-101, EX-101A and EX-104.


2. The end result will connect the two exchangers as shown.

3. Set your view orientation to the Isometric view. and rotate your view until you have a clear picture of the area.
4. In the Standard Preferences dialog, change the Nominal Diameter to 200mm.
 Note that we are using A1

 -OPM for this exercise and the options from specifications will be many.

5. Place a Weld Neck Flange on the nozzle at the bottom of the North end of heat exchanger EX-101.
6. In the Standard Preferences dialog, change the Nominal Diameter to 300mm.
7. Place a 300,200 reducer on the weld neck flange. Be sure to use the Run_Port to place the reducer correctly.
8. From the Piping task menu, pick Place Pipe.
9. Start the pipe from the Concentric Reducer. Select the Schedule 40 pipe from the list provided.
10. Drag your mouse down, press Enter to lock the direction and type 1700. to set the distance. Click a data point to accept the pipe.

11. Drag your mouse to the left, press Enter to lock the direction and then type 2565. to set the distance. Click a data point to accept the pipe.
Right-click to end the command.

12. Click Place Weldneck Flange from the Piping task menu. Select Run_Port from the Placement dialog. Place the flange on the end of the
pipe.

13. Select Valves from the Piping Galleries menu.


14. Click Place Gate Valve from the Piping task menu.

15. For the Tag Information type in GV for Device Type Code and 33 for the Number.

16. Place the valve on the flange just placed. The Gasket and Bolts will be automatically added to complete the placement.
17. Place another weldneck flange onto the Run Port of the valve. Be sure to use the Main_Port when placing the flange. Again, select Bolts
and Gaskets to complete the placement.

18. From the Piping task menu, pick Place Pipe.


19. Select the Schedule 40 pipe from the list provided.

20. Starting at the valve, drag your mouse to the left and press Enter to lock the direction, type 2336. to set the distance and click a data point
to accept.

21. Switch both your view and the AccuDraw Compass to the Right view.

22. Right-click on an icon in the Right view.


23. Align with the nozzle from the North side of EX-104.
 Selecting the Nozzle in any view is possible, the goal here is to use AccuDraw to create the pipe length by location.

25. From the Right View align with the nozzle.

26. In the Standard Preferences dialog, change the Nominal Diameter to 200mm.
27. Change the direction of AccuDraw and end the pipe about half way to the nozzle.

28. Place a Weld Neck Flange on the nozzle.

 Note: that by selecting the Nozzle on EX-104 OPM_Connect recognizes that the Flange needs to be 200 and dialog box will allow you
to choose from spec.

29. Select the pipe and then the top arrow to drag that end up to the flange you just placed.

30. As soon as the pipe is attached OPM_CONNECT will place the corresponding reducer.

31. In the Standard Preferences dialog, change the Nominal Diameter to 300mm.
32. Select Piping > Valves > Gate.
 Before placing the valve select Browse, from the tag browser dialog.

33. Expand the options under PID_2020_M_Training..dgn.i.dgn.
34. Select GV-2024 from the list.
35. Select OK.

36. Place the valve in the pipeline in between the two pipe racks. Choose Bolts and Gaskets for the flanges to complete the placement.
