Russia opposes Ukraine joining NATO because it would expand the alliance's

presence to its border. Another important argument is that in the event of an

external attack, any NATO member country will be eligible for collective help
from all countries. In Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, the notion of collective
defence is established. The most serious concern is that if Ukraine joins NATO, it
will attempt to retake Crimea through military means.

Point 1
 Since the start of the crisis, Russia and NATO have been at odds. This could
escalate into a situation where Russia uses a nuclear weapon against
Ukraine, prompting NATO intervention to protect the country; or a situation
where Russia strays into securely monitored NATO airspace in an attempt to
target fleeing Ukrainians who may have sought refuge within NATO borders
especially as Russia has resorted to encircle Ukraine's cities with weaponry,
arms shutting off supply and escape routes. The goal of the plan is to deplete
the ability and motivation of the Ukrainian defences to fight, particularly by
imposing immense agony on civilians. This could in turn lead to a wider
conflict might include the UN or NATO mandating a "No Fly Zone" to
protect civilian evacuees as Ukraine has requested. However, the West is
sceptical of the same since it may lead to a bigger conflict. (ADD POINTS

Article 1.3 of the United Nations Charter supports and encourages universal
respect for human rights and basic freedoms. The invasion of Ukraine by
Russia is a flagrant breach of the United Nations Charter and an act of war
and aggression that is punishable under international humanitarian law. This
could be construed as genocide. Genocide is widely seen as the most serious
crime against humanity. It is defined as a mass extermination of a particular
group of people. Since then, several human rights groups have urged UN
member states to maintain and protect the UN Charter, which forbids the use
of force against a state's territorial sovereignty or political independence.
