VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Nkhoma University is an institution of higher learning accredited by the National


Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The University has two campuses; one at Nkhoma,
15km off Kamphata Trading Centre, about 35 kilometers south of Lilongwe city. Another
one is at the heart of Lilongwe City, within Lilongwe CCAP premises, where the head
office is. As the university is growing, it seeks to engage the services of two Lecturers in
Early Childhood Development.

Job Title : Lecturer in Early Childhood Development

Responsible to : Head of Department

Role and Responsibilities

To develop, manage and monitor undergraduate programmes. This includes associated


operational administration, curriculum development and quality management and
enhancement (including accreditation by relevant professional institutions where
appropriate). The incumbent will work with Heads of Department to ensure the efficient
and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with Nkhoma University
strategy, policy and procedures. Undertake research activities and engage in enterprise
activities that influence a leading-edge practice.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

a. Deliver a wide range of effective and inclusive teaching and supporting learning
activities
b. Contribute to course development and the development of new programmes of
study, demonstrating an inclusive approach to delivery
c. Participate in teaching initiatives at a department, Faculty and University level to
develop/or consolidate teaching interests of the Department/Faculty.
d. Contribute to outreach and/or Widening Participation activity within the
Department, Faculty or University.
e. Undertake and contribute to research, conducting individual research or
collaborating with others.
f. Conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects
g. Identify and attract external sources of funding and contribute to the process of
securing funds for own research or scholarly projects.
h. Present research at national and/or international conferences and/ or at other
appropriate events.
i. Contribute to the development and implementation of research strategies in the
Faculty/Department/University.
j. Undertake specific leadership roles in the Department /Faculty and contribute to
institutional committees and working parties.
k. Manage and support colleagues with less experience and facilitate their academic
and personal development.
l. Represent the Department, Faculty and University in external relations as
required.
m. Foster and develop internal or external networks of benefit to the
Department/Faculty/University Student learning experience.
n. Provide innovation and visionary leadership to students and staff in the
Department, Faculty and University

n. Establish effective collaboration to the Departments and Faculty

o. Maintain a work environment that facilitates the development of students and


encourages them to perform at highest level

Qualifications
- A minimum of Master’s degree in relevant field of study. Those with PhD will have
an added advantage
- At least two yeas work experience at an institution of higher learning.
