First riding lessons

Rania and Meg are best friends. They love sport, and because Meg has to use a
wheelchair, they’re always looking for new ideas for sports activities that they can both
do. When Meg’s mother found a place where the girls could learn to ride horses, they
were very excited.
When the girls went to the riding school for their first lesson, the horses looked
enormous, so they were both a bit scared. They soon felt better when they met their
teacher, Karen, who was really friendly and gave them some carrots for the horses.
Karen told the girls to hold their hands flat, with their fingers together, and it was
amazing because the horses took the carrots from their hands so carefully. ‘I don’t
feel terrified now!’ Meg laughed.
Karen gave them hats and boots to wear during the lesson, and then she helped the
girls to get onto the horses and sit comfortably. Meg’s horse was called Star, and Rania’s
was called Juno. Because this was their first lesson, Karen was in front of them on foot
the whole time and they didn’t go very fast. After they got off the horses, Karen showed
the girls how to feed them. Both the girls thought it was a great experience, and now
they go riding together every week.
