Tutorial: Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil


This course manual is based on the general UvA guidelines for tutorials. A rMA tutorial in
philosophy has a workload of 168 hours, which corresponds to 6 EC.

2. Study material
This tutorial was dedicated to a close reading of Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil. Students had to
present an aphorism for every session. We had a total of 6 sessions.

3. Content and educational objectives


a. Content

Nietzsche’s book Beyond Good and Evil; understanding the philosophical project and main
philosophical notions that he introduced in this book.

b. Educational objectives

I studying and evaluating the relevant literature in his/her academic discipline;

II formulating a research plan;

III conducting research in an academically acceptable manner and reporting on said research in a
way that satisfies the specified requirements of the academic discipline;

IV thinking in a critical and creative way;

V correct formulation.

4. Assessment
a. Test formats

The assessment form depends on the nature of the tutorial. This should be clearly stated in this
section of the manual. Please select, explain/add information when necessary and erase what is
irrelevant.

- Regular Tutorial: written paper, reports and/or oral presentations.

Students were ask to prepare an oral presentation for every session.

e. Results

The results of the tutorial will be announced within the time frame set for this in the Teaching and
Examination Regulation (OER).

f. Feedback and inspection

The student receives feedback on the paper by means of the assessment form completed by the
teacher. After grading, an individual feedback discussion takes place.

g. Resit

If the final grade is insufficient, the student has one opportunity to resit. After receiving the final
grade, the student has one month to submit a rewritten paper.

h. Fraud and plagiarism rules

The University of Amsterdam Fraud and Plagiarism regulations apply to the assessment of this
