Consequences or effects of climate change

• High temperatures: The days are hotter and the heat waves are much stronger. The
year 2020 was one of the hottest years on record.
• The increase in intense storms: The change in temperature causes changes in
precipitation, which creates storms more frequently.
• Increased drought: Water is scarce in more and more regions. Droughts can cause
destructive sand and dust storms that can displace billions of tons of sand across
continents.
• The ocean warms and the ocean level rises: the ocean absorbs most of the heat, which
causes the ocean ice to melt and the ocean level rises.
• Loss of species: Climate change poses a risk to the survival of species on land and in
the sea. These risks increase as temperatures rise. Forest fires, extreme weather
conditions, and invasive pests and diseases are some of the many threats related to
climate change.
• More health risks.
• Poverty and displacement of households: Climate change increases the factors that
place and keep people in poverty. Floods can devastate urban slums, destroying homes
and livelihoods
