Definition
Contemporary literature is a written literary work that was
created in the current era, particularly after the 1940s. It is an
extension of the postmodern era and usually reveals serious
themes about world war which are grounded in psychological,
social, cultural, political, religious, and economic issues.
Background
Contemporary literature began to emerge after World War II. At that time,
the world had a different perspective on things. The world changed
rapidly and literature changed with it, almost as rapidly. Due to the
horrors of the war, contemporary literature came as a medium to express
the complexity of human experiences. Contemporary literature produces
a diverse range of genres, including war-themed novels, magical realism,
and coming-of-age stories.
