Assignment#2

Q1. Write any easy trick to remember resistor code?

Ans. The resistor color codes can be remembered with the help of mnemonic device “BB ROY of Great
Britain had a Very Good Wife”.

Q2. Why we measure voltage in Parallel and current in series? Explain with example?
Ans. We measure voltage in parallel because in a parallel circuit voltage remain same in both
connection. And in measurement of current we use ammeter or multi-meter in series because the
current is flow from the meter to sense the flow of current.
Q3. Take some resistor and capacitor and make a chart write its color code and measured value from
multi-meter?
Ans.

Resistor Color Resistor Code Resistor Value Measured Value

(Ohm) (Ohm)
Brown Black Red Gold 10x102 ±5 % 1000 ±5 % 998
Brown Black Yellow Silver 10x104 ±10 % 10000 ±10 % 9991
Red Red Brown Gold 22x101 ±5 % 220 ±5 % 218

Q4. Find the nominal resistance and possible ranges of actual resistance for the following color
codes.

 Brown, Black, Red, Gold

 Brown, Black, Orange, Gold
 Yellow, Violet, Red, Gold
Ans.

Resistor Color Resistor Resistor Minimum Maximum

Code Value Resistance Resistance
(Ohm) (Ohm)
Brown, Black, Red, Gold 10x102 ±5 % 1000 ±5 % 950 1050
Brown, Black, Orange, 10x103 ±5 % 10000 ±5 % 9500 10500
Gold
Yellow, Violet, Red, Gold 47x102 ±5 % 4700 ±5 % 4465 4935

Q5. A ceramic capacitor of 724 printed on it will possess the value equal to?

Ans. Ceramic capacitors encoding consists 1-3 digits. If the capacitor code consist only 1 or 2 digits, it
is simply their capacitance value in PicoFarads (pF). In this ceramic capacitor.
72x104 = 720000 pF
