you need from the view-screen of your home computer system. The computer is linked to a library-
not a library of books but an electronic library where information on every subjects is stored in
computer memory banks.

Passage B
E-books have not spelled the demise of the local library in New York. In fact, according to a new
report from the Center for an Urban Future, 40.5 million people visited the city's public libraries,
more than all of the city's professional sports teams and major cultural institutions combined.
The report "Branches of Opportunity" looks at the changing role of the city's libraries in the digital
age. It finds that while public libraries are serving more New Yorkers than ever, they are
"undervalued by policymakers and face growing threats." New York City's library system is a unique
hybrid. Three organizations- the New York Public Library, along with the Brooklyn and Queens
libraries-operate 206 local branches throughout the five boroughs. (Adapted from www.wnyc.org)

Question 5-9 are based on the following passage.

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and a longtime Twitter provocateur,
now owns a 9.2 percent share of Twitter and has been offered a board seat at the company. Parag
Agrawal, Twitter’s CEO, wrote a welcome post on the platform today, noting that Musk is “both a
passionate believer and intense critic of the service, which is exactly what we need on Twitter, and in
the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term.”
According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Musk’s board term will
expire in 2024. And as long as he continues to serve on the board, he cannot own more than 14.9
percent of the company’s common stock. Twitter’s move to appoint Musk a board seat may be a tactic
to prevent him from taking over the company by buying a controlling share.

As his investment was announced days after he publicly questioned the company’s
commitment to free speech and suggested that he might start his own social platform, several outlets
are speculating that Musk could be preparing to take on an activist investor role at Twitter. Activist
investors buy big shares in companies to influence how they’re run. A traditional activist investor
takes an important position in a company, installs board members aligned with a certain point of view,
and uses their new power to make financial and operational changes with the goal of increasing the
company’s share price.
Musk might seek to use his position to change Twitter products, content moderation rules
(what gets labelled and removed), and enforcement practices (such as when to deplatform a user). In
addition, he has also previously voiced his belief that users should be allowed to choose what types of
tweets they see and what order they see it in, challenging Twitter’s core algorithm. This resonates
with the interest expressed by many Twitter executives to decentralize the platform and enable users
to customize their own feed algorithms

The text is for question 10 to 14

The Covid-19 vaccine has changed the course of the pandemic. In total, 162 doses have been given
for every 100 people around the world. In countries that reached the highest levels of vaccination,
death rates plummeted.

Amid this progress, the world was caught off guard when the omicron variant rose to prominence in
late 2021. Omicron proved somewhat less severe than previous variants, but it spread much faster.

Millions of vaccinated people have gotten sick from the omicron strain, but the shots served their
most important function—preventing severe illness. During the omicron wave, vaccination with a
booster reduced the chance of hospitalization and death by more than 90%. Sudden spikes of cases
from the fast-moving variant have pressured health systems, but the outlook for the average Covid
patient has improved significantly.

In early 2021, Israel was first to show that vaccines were bending the curve of Covid infections. The
country led the world in early vaccinations, and cases declined rapidly. A similar pattern of
vaccination and recovery was repeated across dozens of countries.
New, more transmissible variants caused renewed outbreaks, but in these subsequent waves,
unvaccinated patients faced far higher risk of hospitalization and death. This disparity in outcomes led
health officials to dub the current phase of Covid a “pandemic of the unvaccinated.”

Since the start of the global inoculation campaign, countries have experienced unequal access to
vaccines and varying degrees of success in getting shots into people’s arms.

This chart shows how Covid cases and deaths compare with prior waves in each country. When
omicron took off in late 2021, cases soared but were less likely to be fatal.

10. What can be inferred from paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 according to the passage
a. High vaccination rates have caught the word off guard in tackling the fast spread of Omicron
B. Many people died because of the vaccination and also the rapid spread of Omicron
C. In total, 158 doses have been administered for every 100 people in worldwide to tackle the fast
spreading spread of Omicron
d. All countries get vaccinated fast because of the fast spread of Omicron too
e. low vaccination rates make the spread of Omicron spread rapidly making many people die

11. Which of the following is the best paraphrase of the sentence "Sudden spikes of cases from the
fast-moving variant have pressured health systems, but the outlook for the average Covid patients has
improved significantly"
a. The increased immunity due to the previous virus provides high prospects
b. The case of the virus variant has given a system change, but the community can't survive
c. The surge in cases of the virus makes the prospects of covid patients increase but it is not
controlled
d. The vaccination process that has been carried out by many patients has changed the social system
e. The previous high cases of the virus had an effect on health status, but the majority of patients
exposed to the virus survived

12. Based on the note that follow the graph above, we can understand that...
a. The number of Omicron cases is directly proportional to the number of deaths in 2022
b. Covid-19 cases until early 2021 have increased the number of deaths with the number of
vaccinations not being maximized
c. After maximum vaccination, the death rate decreased even though Omicron case is soared until
2019
d. After maximal vaccination, the mortality rate decreased even though Omicron cases soared until
2022
e. The peak of new Omicron cases occurred in January 2022 which caused the number of deaths to be
unpredictable

13. When the omicron variant rose to prominence in late 2021

The word ‘prominence’ can be replaced by…
a. Inferiority
b. Importance
c. Insignificance
d. Depression
e. Obscurity

14. The author mentioned that The process of the vaccination pattern was successfully carried out by
Israel and provided a recovery for the number of cases of the spread of covid paragraph

The Use of AI in Education

Dianne Adlawan/January 19, 2024

As you may have noticed the impact of A.I on learning and education processes have been in the
global news quite a lot. What are your thoughts on it?
Harvey Blom/January 19, 2024
As a teacher who’ve tried AI, I have found that it can help make my jobs easier, from coming up
with lesson plans to generating student project ideas to creating quizzes. With assistance from
artificial intelligence, teachers can gain more time to spend with their students
Alex York/January 20, 2024
Students can use ChatGPT to write entire essays, answer quiz questions, or do their homework.
Ironically, now there are AI programs that can detect AI writing to help teachers determine if their
students are cheating. But sometimes those programs may falsely identify a student’s original work
as plagiarism. Besides, if students interact with a software program more than with a teacher, they
can begin to feel disconnected and isolated. Their motivation and engagement may decrease, which
could lead to an increase in dropout rates.
Ross Chapman/January 21, 2024
First on the list are the threats to teachers’ job security. This is not happening yet, but it is a concern
that the advancement and adoption of AI could impact the need for certain job roles in education.
The way AI continues to automate more aspects of the education process, there may be fewer
demands for human educators, which could lead to both improved productivity and potential job
loss.
