1.The Human Resource department within Fractal Entertainment wishes to promote to all computing
staff within the company the advantages of membership of an appropriate professional body. Choose
two computing practitioners from the staff list for the company. For each practitioner’s job role, answer
the questions listed below. Your answers should be brought together in an informative way which could
be used to explain to staff – why being a member of a professional body would be beneficial; what
professional bodies do; and how they can influence computing practitioners working lives. You should
include all appropriate references in your answer.

(a) For the two staff members you have chosen, name for each a different professional body which
would be suited to their job role within the company.

(b) Describe what these professional bodies can do for their membership, business organizations and
society.

2. A code of professional conduct is an essential professional guide for computing practitioners in their
day to day work activities. The Human Resource department within Fractal Entertainment wishes to add

professional code of conduct. You should consider the questions below in the context of the computing
staff within Fractal Entertainment. Your answer should make reference to the content of a computing
professional body’s code of conduct. You should include all appropriate references in your anser.

(a) Your line manage has suggested that, as part of your Continuous Professional Development plan, you
should work towards certification related to the day to day activities in your job roe. Explain how this
request relates to the content of a professional code of conduct.

(b) One of your friends works for another games development company and wants you both to
share/exchange details on the latest games under development in your respective work places, explain
how you would deal with this request.

© You know that a work colleague in games development has integrated hidden levels within the beta
version of a game being developed. These hidden levels include sections where characters are extremely
violent towards children. Explain how you would deal with this situation.

(d) You have been approached by an acquaintance who has asked if you can get them copies of some of
the most popular games produced by the company. Explain what your replay would be and why you
would choose a particular set of actions.

3. Each member of the computing team in Fractal Entertainment must be familiar with contemporary
legislation related to computing. To assist in this the director of the company has instructed each
member of staff to create an information sheet for each of three items of legislation relevant to their
job, and which may have an impact on their day to day activities as computing practitioners. You should
assume that your hold one of the computing job roles within Fractal Entertainment and create the three
required information sheets in the context of the role. You should include all appropriate references in
you answer.

4. Fractal Entertainment is about to commission from a computer manufacturer 1,000 mobile devices to
carry out market research on a range of mobile games which have been developed in hose.

The current proposals for disposal of the devices include a proposal for dispatch to india for recycling,
and a further proposal for dispatch to East Asia to landfill site. Consider, in the context of individuals,
society and your organization, the implications of the suggested disposal methods for the devices after
the market research has been carried out.

As a member of the computing staff, your line manager has asked you to report on the implications of
the suggested methods of disposal including any ethical conflict, which may arise in relation to the
company mission statement. Your response should clearly demonstrate the sources of ethical
advice(outwith professional bodies or computing practitioners), which could be consulted with regard
to the methods of disposal proposed. You should include all appropriate references in your answer.
