My Hero Academia (Boku No Hero Academia)

Summary

The appearance of "quirks," newly discovered super powers, has been steadily
increasing over the years, with 80 percent of humanity possessing various abilities
from manipulation of elements to shape-shifting and more. The 20 percent of
mankind who do not possess a power are called "quirkless", and are usually looked
down upon by the supernatural community. Academies across the globe train and
teach their students how to become heroes with their quirks. Izuku Midoriya, a
boy who was deemed quirkless, dreams of being able to become a hero too just like
his idol All Might, the no. 1 hero in Japan, but he gets bullied for his unrealistic
dreams. One day, his fate changes in an unexpected meeting with his idol, and he is
given the chance to become his successor and inherent his quirk, one for all, a quirk
with a dark history, which is passed down from successor to successor, who
cultivates it with their own power and passes it on, with its sole purpose is to
defeat it's brother, all for one and later on Izuku finally gets to go to his dream
school UA High,the most prestigious and elite hero school in all of Japan, to follow
his dreams along with his new friends and fellow classmates. This is the beginning
of the story of how he… no how all of them became the greatest heroes.

Character Chosen

Name: Himiko Toga

Age: 18 (Current)

Quirk: Transform: Himiko's Quirk grants her the ability to transform into a
physical lookalike of another individual, as well as copy their voice. She can only
transform into people whose blood she has ingested. The more blood she drinks,
the longer she has access to that person's form. For example, 1 cup of blood lets
her transform for a total of 18 hours. She can switch between the appearances of
multiple people if she drinks the blood of more than one person. She can even
duplicate a person's clothing, though her own clothes would overlap the
transformation, requiring her to get naked beforehand. Upon deactivating her
Quirk or switching to another disguise, Himiko's disguise melts into a gray viscous
liquid.

During her fight with Curious and her soldiers, Himiko's Quirk underwent an
Awakening, giving her the ability to use the Quirks of the people into whom she's
transformed, something that she was previously incapable of doing(My Hero
Academia Episode 109/Season 5 Episode 21). However, Himiko can only use another
person's Quirk if she is fascinated by that person and holds that person close to
her heart, and she must have sufficient information on their power.

Himiko Toga’s Past
The past of this blonde girl is explored in My Hero Academia episode
109 (Season 5 Episode 21), where once more the audience is given the
chance to empathize with a vicious villain. Even though Himiko was
known as a sweet-natured child when she was younger, as soon as her
quirk was discovered, perceptions of her drastically changed.

Her terrified parents ordered her to reject and suppress her Quirk at
all costs and to always behave as a respectable lady because they could
only see evil intentions in their (supposedly) innocent daughter.
However, their approach did not have the intended impact they desired
and in fact served as a trigger for her descent into villainy. Himiko's
hemophilia grew to an explosive level as a result of having to live a lie
her entire life; as a result, the girl's first victim was a classmate, her
first crush, with little to no restraint in the attack. Himiko went into
hiding after being publicly exposed as a "creepy demon child," leaving
her parents to face the aftermath.

Her parents publicly disowned their daughter in an effort to stop

further humiliation, taking no responsibility for their (unsupportive and
toxic) role in the situation, and blaming everything to a horrendous
genetic defect. Himiko, who was abandoned and alone, eagerly joined
the League of Villains after finding comfort in the only people to fully
embrace and accept her for who she is, which in a way helps her with
her disorders.
The Parent Trap

There are undoubtedly much better ways that Himiko's parents might
have handled the matter, despite the fact that most people would
probably freak out if they saw their kid using a dead bird's corpse as a
Capri Sun alternative. Her parents may have done more to comprehend
their daughter's quirk once the initial shock subsided rather than
merely brushing it under the rug. Since her quirk requires blood to
work, Himiko's hemophilia is most likely a direct outcome of this and
not necessarily a manifestation of her psychopathic personality (even if
that ultimately became the end result.)

Himiko's parents could have raised her by establishing a strong sense

of morality and ethics in their daughter, who had an attitude brimming
with intrigue rather than fear and disgust. Her parents had been
selfish in ostracizing her for their own comfort, but had they all
worked together, they would have undoubtedly discovered a beneficial
use for her quirk. If Himiko had experienced love, support, and
acceptance from her family, she might not have gone into the dark side
of life.

If the teen fiction vampire-obsessed tropes have taught us anything,

it's that one can responsibly consume blood without inflicting a lot of
harm. Himiko just has to take a page out of Stefan Salvatore's book
(or any blood-sucking protagonist of her choice) and gain some
self-control and more lovable (and less frightening) behaviors . She
may very well have her own personal feeder familiar who would gladly
donate their blood to Himiko's cause.
Nature VS Nature (Her Disorders/Mental Illnesses)

Despite her parents' lack of guidance, Himiko may not have been able
to take a positive path in life because of the nature of her quirk.
Schizophrenia and Dissociative Identity Disorder are two of the
several mental health issues said to be related to the consumption of
human blood, whereas Renfield's syndrome, also known as clinical
vampirism, is a recognized disorder that Himiko unmistakably has and is
primarily rooted in cannibalistic urges. Anyone who has seen Silence of
the Lambs is well aware of the consequences that human consumption
may have on one's mental health. While blood may be far less "toxic"
than flesh, it still has its drawbacks.

Himiko's mental health disorders would probably be inevitable if she

drank blood for a prolonged period of time. But, having a mental illness
does not necessarily mean being evil, and getting a DID or
schizophrenia diagnosis does come with a one-way trip to the Looney
Bin. Even a mentally ill Himiko could hopefully stay on the right track
with the right help and therapy, as long as she puts her heart in it (and
regularly working with her beloved Izuku would undoubtedly be a
significant motivator!).
Overall Summary

In conclusion, Himiko has been visibly seen to have Schizophrenia,

DID(Dissociative Identity Disorder), and Clinical Vampirism (Renfield's
Syndrome) and she could also possibly have more that are just harder
to find, see, or know. I believe that she may not be aware that she has
schizophrenia or DID but I know that she knew she had clinical
vampirism or at least started to figure out that she had clinical
vampirism when she was either a kid when she started to crave blood
starting with the baby bird she bit(initially saved it my wrapping up it’s
broken wing with a bandage but ended up sucking it’s blood leading to
its death because she thought the bird was cute causing her
cravings/quirk to mix with her emotions of pleasure and love for the
first time) or when she was a teenager who was now smarter and
possibly did research about what was wrong with her in the past.

The only people so far who had helped Himiko in some sort of way was
the LOV (League Of Villains) who had took her in and loved, cared,
supported, and accepted her for who she is and never once asked her
to pretend to be someone she isn’t but to just be herself and do the
things she wants to do and like/love the things or people she wants to
like/love. So if one of them dies or gets hurt (e.g. Magne, Twice, Mr.
Compress) you can be sure as hell that she’ll be mad and go crazy and
try to kill whoever killed or hurt the people she loved and cared about
most(e.g. Overhaul and his gang, Hawks). Recently as well, in the manga
one of the heroes and possibly the love interest of the main
protagonist and one of Himiko’s crushes, Ochako Uraraka, now is trying
her best to help her and save her while avoiding attacks at the same
time (Chapter 348, 375-376) to atone for the mistake she did of
making Himiko cry and brushing off the young villain’s question and
saying it was a “useless” question and saying some hurtful words to her
as she was too focused on saving people back then to care about the
poor blonde who was trying to get her attention (Season 6 Episode
10/My Hero Academia Episode 129 “The Ones Within Us”).

It is also shown that she still hasn’t overcome most of the difficulties
that come with her disorder until the latest chapters of the manga. I
also chose this anime series for my performance task because this is
my first and all-time favorite anime and I knew I already had a lot of
options to pick from because most of the villains and some of the
heroes in the anime has or had a mental health issue/disorder/problem
and it is also easier for me because not only fo I really love this anime
and have watched every episode and read every chapter of the
manga(ongoing releases of new chapters and seasons/episodes) I really
know the characters backstories well but obviously not all of them and
all I had to now was to find what specific disorders they showed or
displayed.

Lastly, here some things I learned from watching My Hero Academia:

● Taking actionable steps can overcome fear and self-doubt;
● Even underappreciated work is important and worth doing;
● Don’t be too proud or too stubborn to ask for help;
● The right teacher makes all the difference;
● Good rivalries are built on respect not envy;
● Good deeds are always worth doing;
● One good role model can change a life;
● Everyone must recognize their own unique talents, abilities, and
skills;
● Even great talents need to be honed and refined;
● And hard work can make up for almost anything.
