CWTS1 Activity 4

1. The safety of schools is important and DRR aims at reducing the

vulnerability to, and impact of disasters on schools. It prepares both
teachers and students for potential disasters, thereby reducing the
impact of said disaster. The role of Schools in Disaster Risk Reduction
Education is to guide school heads and administrators in facilitating the
protection of children, education personnel, and education itself. In
addition, it guides the development or improvement of existing policies,
practices, protocols and plans at the school level.

2. The best ways are to encourage us to have a safety kit that provides
24 hours of food, water, and medication and to have an emergency
response plan in place and to request to the government to provide the
technology, tools and practices that enable disaster response
organizations to systematically manage information from multiple
sources and collaborate effectively to assist survivors, mitigate
damage, and help communities rebuild.

3. The role of the media is to assists in the management of disasters by

educating the public about disasters; warning of hazards; gathering
and transmitting information about affected areas; alerting government
officials, relief organizations and the public to specific needs; and
facilitating discussions about disaster preparedness and response for
continuous improvement. The media is one of the most importance in
all phases of disasters, before, during and after, with different types of
media having different proactive roles to play in disaster risk reduction.
Before disasters, they play essential roles not only in bringing early
warning to people but also in enhancing their perception of the need to
act.
