I. EMPATHY

Food preservation is an important aspect to ensure food safety, availability, and

reducing waste. Throughout the times, various food preservation methods have been
made such as fermentation, Air and Sun - Drying, Smoking, Salting and more.

However, these does not solve all of these problems such as extreme temperature,
high humidity, fluctuating temperature, and excess rainfall.
II. DEFINE

Whenever food gets transported from one location to another, it can effectively
shorten its lifespan as sometimes the process of it being transported takes days to
weeks. Many foods end up being wasted because of this.

III. IDEATE

This project aims to solve this problem by using the mechanical energy produced while
transportation into usable electricity which powers up the heater and freezer inside
the truck. By keeping the food somewhere cold such as a freezer, foods such as meat
and fish are kept here to prolong their longevity. While other foods such as tinapa,
ham, bacon uses the process of smoking or heating to preserve them.
SKETCH

IV. PROTOTYPE
Materials:
cardboard box
used CD’s
paint/paintbrush
smaller cardboard box
tanzans
barbeque stick
scissors
markers
cartolina
cutter
glue gun/glue stick

Procedures
1. Wrap the cardboard box using cartolina
2. Cutout a large rectangular shape hole on the cover
3. Use the part that you cutout as a divider In the box.
4. Paint each side red/blue
5. Using the cutter cut out small circles enough for popsicle sticks to stick in
6. Insert the CD to a popsicle stick and glue a tanzan on the other side of
the popsicle stick using the glue gun
7. Repeat until all wheels are finished
8. Place the cover cutout back on the box and stick the CD made wheels in
their corners.
9. Make a small cardboard box for the truck’s head

2 TEST
Evaluate your design. Was it able to function?

YES NO
Rate your design:

What did you like about your design?

We like how it uses mechanical energy and turns them into electricity which the
truck uses inside to prolong/preserve the food it transports.

What would you do to improve it next time?

We would like to make the prototype simpler and easier to make, and give it more
functionality.

3 CONCLUSION
Food cannot be prevented from going bad, spoiled or rotten, but we can use
different methods of food preservation to possibly preserve or prolong it’s shelf
life/longevity, using methods such as smoking/heating and freezing helps our food
to have a longer shelf life for whenever we need to use it. This project consumes a
lot of electricity which is why we aim to use and convert mechanical energy
produced by the truck and convert it into usable and powered electricity.
