COLPITTS OSCILLATOR

AIM:
To find the frequency of oscillations of Colpitts Oscillator.

APPARATUS:

1. BC 107 transistor – 1no.


2. Capacitors: 0.1μF – 2 no.s
0.01μF – 4 no.s
0.001μF – 2 no.s
100μF – 1 no.
3. Resistors: 33KΩ – 1 no.
1.5KΩ – 1 no.
1KΩ – 1 no.
4. Inductor: 100mH – 1 no.
5. 10KΩ Potentiometer – 1 no.
6. Regulated power supply (0-30V)
7. CRO and CRO probes
8. Bread board
9. Connecting wires.

PROCEDURE:

1. The connections are made as shown in the figure.


2. By varying C1 and C2 values, calculate the time period of the
waveform observed in the CRO.
3. Convert the time period noted into frequency.
4. If necessary, adjust the potentiometer to get an exact sinusoidal
waveform.
5. Theoretical frequency is calculated using the formula and
tabulated.

CALCULATIONS:

1. Practical frequency, F = 1/T

PRECAUTIONS:

1. The circuit connections should be tight.


2. The value of current knob of RPS should be maximum position.
3. Readings from the CRO are to be taken without error.

RESULT:

The frequency of oscillations of Colpitts Oscillator is obtained
