Summary

“The Chronicles of Narnia” is a series of seven fantasy novels written by C.S. Lewis, published

between 1950 and 1956. The series has become a beloved classic and has captivated readers of

all ages with its enchanting storytelling and richly imagined world. Spanning various genres such

as fantasy, adventure, and allegory, “The Chronicles of Narnia” takes readers on a remarkable

journey through a magical land filled with talking animals, mythical creatures, and epic battles

between good and evil.

The series begins with “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Set during World War II, four

siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are sent away to the countryside to escape the

bombings in London. While exploring the old mansion they are staying in, Lucy stumbles upon a

wardrobe that serves as a portal to the land of Narnia. As the story unfolds, the siblings discover

that Narnia is under the oppressive rule of the White Witch, Jadis, and that they are destined to

fulfill an ancient prophecy by aiding the rightful ruler, the great lion Aslan. With courage and

in the fictional world of Middle-earth, where a powerful ring created by the dark lord Sauron

holds the key to ultimate control. The hobbit Frodo Baggins is entrusted with the task of

destroying this Ring to prevent Sauron from conquering Middle-earth.

Frodo, accompanied by his loyal friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin, embarks on a perilous journey

to Mount Doom, the only place where the Ring can be destroyed. Along the way, they face

numerous challenges and form alliances with various races, including humans, elves, and

adventure. The excitement and meaning you get from the story make it totally worth it.

“1984 BY GEORGE ORWELL”
Summary

1984, first published in 1948, is based on a dystopian vision of the future where the freedom of

the individualis subjugated to the conformity of society. The novel focuses on Winston Smith,

who works for the Ministry of Truth, a branch of the government responsible for the

dissemination of information. Each day begins for all citizens with a Two Minutes’ Hate session,

which promotes fear and paranoia in order to ensure that people follow the wishes of Big

Brother. In this world, children act as spies on parents, party members work for terrible food and

housing, and all individuality is washed way under the constant, ever present gaze of Big

Brother. As the novel unfolds, it becomes apparent that Winston Smith is unhappy with his life.

He finds a girl, Julia, who shares his desire for a more meaningful life. Smith’s revolt against

society will eventually bring him eye to eye with Big Brother, when he must decide if he truly

loves Julia, freedom, or Big Brother.
