The following documents are part of your assessment for your Fieldwork Practice
paper. The Fieldwork Team believe they provide you with an opportunity to plan,
reflect on, discuss and critique aspects of your learning throughout the fieldwork
experience. We are always open to feedback and suggestions so that we can
continue to provide you with assessment tools that enhance your reflection and
learning.
You are required to complete all of the documentation to a satisfactory standard in
order to pass this part of the fieldwork paper. Incomplete work may be sent back
for further work or may mean that a Pass grade cannot be given to a student. The
documents that you are required to complete include the BSW field education
contract, placement progress forms (at weeks 5 and 10), the worksheets, the
assessment summary sheet and the assessment document.
Reminder: You will need to purchase a Code of Ethics/Bicultural Code of Practice
from the ANZASW in order to complete the worksheets. You can also purchase
these from the School of Health and Social Services office.
Please contact us if you have any questions concerning the worksheets while you are

1.

The student social worker adheres to the Code of Ethics of the Aotearoa New
Zealand Association of Social Workers and utilises appropriate processes to
influence and reinforce competent practice.

2.

The student social work demonstrates a commitment to practising social work


in accordance with the Bicultural Code of Practice and an understanding of the
Principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

3.

The student social worker establishes an appropriate, collaborative and


empowering working relationship with clients. This relationship takes into
account individual, social and cultural differences.

4.

In working with clients, the student social worker engages in reflective practice
and the appropriate use of self.

5.

The student social worker has a developing knowledge of social work methods,

Additional Considerations
Massey University expects that:


the student will complete the required number of hours (60 days / 480 hours);

the student will receive regular weekly, uninterrupted supervision from the field
educator;

the student will at no time take on a public role on behalf of the agency,
including contact with the media;

the student will normally have a maximum of five days, sick or other special
leave;

students will be familiar with and observe the ANZASW Bicultural Code of
Ethics

students will conduct themselves in a professional manner that upholds the


high standards and reputation of Massey University and its Social Work
programme.

Field educators will be available for staff visits and other consultation as may be
required;

Field educators will appropriately orient the student to the agency;

Field educators will contact the Fieldwork Coordinator for consultation as


required.
