INTRODUCTION:

North America's United States is a federal republic made up of fifty states.

Washington, which is also the capital of the District of Columbia, serves as the

country's capital. It is made up of 326 Native American reservations, five large

unincorporated territories, nine Minor Outlying Islands, fifty states, and one federal

district. In terms of overall area and land area, it is the third-largest country in the

globe. As of January 20, 2021, at 12:00 EST, Joe Biden is the 46th and current

president of the United States. The official currency of the United States is the dollar.

LANGUAGE:

 ORIGIN

The history of American English began with the first large-scale migration of

British settlers. They discovered that the environment they had known before had

drastically changed upon arriving at the American continent, home to flora and fauna

nonexistent in Europe. To adequately convey what they witnessed, they had to come

up with new vocabulary.

They frequently borrowed from American Indian languages, producing

anglicized terms such as hickory, squash, and raccoon. Place names like Manhattan,

Connecticut, and Massachusetts also reflect this. They also borrowed phrases from

previous Spanish colonists, who had frequently themselves modified the original

Indian language by the Spanish. The hybrids of English and Spanish are called

avocado, canyon, and bronco. Finally, they borrowed from the French, as evidenced

by the names of cities such as Detroit, New Orleans, and Illinois, as well as words like

prairie and chowder.

English-speaking Americans created their own distinctive vocabulary and

pronunciations over time; many of these were extensively adopted not only in other

languages but also in England. Perhaps the clearest example is the omnipresent word

"ok," which has been incorporated into the languages of every continent with human

inhabitants. Linguists speculate that it may have originated from the sardonic

wordplay of American jokers in the early 19th century, however its history and

origins are unknown. Around this time, a trend of intentionally misspelling words and

phrases promoted by some intelligent young people in American cities resulted in the

acronym "ok," which originated from "oll korrect," which means "all correct."

American Sign Language (ASL) is the most common sign language in the
United States.

 QUANTITY

Regardless of their place of origin, 241 million or almost 78% of the 308.8

million Americans aged five and older in 2019 stated that they spoke only English at

home. After English and Spanish, Tagalog is the second most spoken language in

Arabic, and French are among the other languages that are spoken widely.

COMMUNICATION NORMS

1. Verbal

 In general, Americans communicate with great enthusiasm, assertiveness, and

confidence. They also feel more at ease discussing their accomplishments and

successes than many other English-speaking Western societies, such as Australia,

New Zealand, and Britain.

 Americans prefer direct communication since it helps to prevent

misunderstandings.

 Even when conversing with people they do not know well, Americans frequently

use slang, informal words, and first names in casual interactions.

 Americans don't hesitate to say no or yes. When Americans say "no," they mean

it clearly. Yes means yes and no means no, but with Americans, you can be sure

that there will always be an explanation when something is said or done.
