2 Electric vehicles are now one of the best options we can find when we go to get a new

3 car. This market segment has seen unprecedented growth in recent years. But, are they actually

4 a reality now or did they exist a few years ago? The answer takes us back to the 20th century.

5 Specifically, to 1946, when the DAR car was manufactured. The first electric car that was

6 built in Spain. It was in Seville, and built by Francisco Domínguez-Adame Romero. It took him five

7 months to make it, along with his family, and he did so by hand. The reason for this timeless

8 creation was because of lack of fuel and, currently, it is being promoted by changes in mobility

9 brought about by society's progress, as it explores new transportation options that are

10 environmentally-friendly, protect natural areas and offer options for the future.

11 This is one of the challenges that will be discussed at Global Mobility Call, and which is

12 expected to be a true option for most of society over the short-term. This is established by

13 European Union commitments for the 2030 Agenda, which aims to reduce net greenhouse gas

14 emissions by at least 55% in Europe by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. This effect will be

15 combined with the encouragement, for manufacturers and individuals, to produce and purchase

16 electric vehicles, as they are the ones who respond to limiting gas emissions.

17 This is also one of the government’s goals regarding the number of electric vehicles in

18 Spain, which aims for five million of these cars to be driving by 2030.
