As in many parts of the world, femicide is a serious problem and there are serious concerns from a

political point of view.

The violent murder of women just because they are women is categorized as femicide, which is the
most serious form of violence against women and one of the most serious forms of discrimination
against women. These acts are mainly due to gender inequality, dependency, marginalization and risk
in relation to men.

Envigado has seen an alarming increase in the number of femicides in recent years. This phenomenon
is a clear violation of women's human rights and highlights the continuing violence against women in
our society.

In Colombia, femicide was typified as an autonomous crime by law 1761 of 2015, this type of
criminal acts, will be aggravated when committed by a public servant, the victim is under 18 or over
60 years old, is committed by several people, is preceded by a sexual assault or is perpetrated by the
partner or ex-partner of the victim.
By understanding that femicide and femicide violence are issues that involve the social organization,
it is essential to generate comprehensive actions, including laws, to protect women and girls from
violence, and it is also recommended to take preventive measures from an early age and to provide
accessible services for all survivors, as well as access to justice.

To accompany the women residents of Envigado, the municipality of the South of the Aburrá Valley
launched a campaign called "Woman you are not alone", which has as its main objective since 2020
to provide support, legal and psychological counseling to 423 citizens through the Secretariat for
Equality.

To better understand this issue I will base myself on the following question "what are the causes and
risk factors behind femicides in Envigado? "By means of which I will analyze some of the social,
cultural and relational risk factors that have the greatest impact on femicide, including socio-cultural
beliefs that are historically influential within society, conflictive relationships between couples,
domestic violence, among others, This leads to different affectations in the families due to the fact
that it is not only the victim who presents consequences, but also that the family is altered in such a
way that the system does not develop correctly, provoking dysfunctions in the family and social
environment, taking into account the physical, psychological and psychosocial consequences that can
be produced due to these violent acts.

This issue is of vital importance as it can be used to address the issues of gender-based violence in
Colombia and the protection of the rights and security of women and girls. In order to promote the
issue, effective public policies can be implemented, guaranteeing access to justice, preventing and
eradicating this form of violence.

To explore this concept, research will be carried out involving statistical data related to femicides in
Envigado, the analysis of existing public policies and the evaluation of prevention strategies
implemented to date, as well as visits to different entities related to the topic.
