Since “a joyful heart makes a merry face” (Prov. 15:15), we must place more emphasis upon
keeping our hearts filled with joy. We can do this by getting more involved with God and
others. The cheerfulness which results will make each of us a blessing to others.
Pray: Lord, remind me of the importance of Christian fellowship.

People are like lights in a dark room. They dispel the gloom which permeates our
world. Family, friends, and co-workers appreciate cheerfulness. As an attitude, cheerfulness
far exceeds most other traits in varying degrees; but the inward joy of the believer enhances
his cheerfulness. We canno’t depend upon people, possessions, or circumstances to keep us
cheerful. Instead, we must learn to function as the astronauts. When they go into outer space
or stride across the face of the moon, they must carry oxygen with them and provide their own
atmosphere for survival. As we live in a changing world, function in a hostile environment,
and grapple with life-threatening obstacles, we must carry our own atmosphere with us for
survival. Let’s learn more about cheerfulness as we work through this series of lessons.
