Prelim Exam Review Packet
I. Poetry
Instruction: Study the poem and identify the imagery in the poem. Fill in the chart with lines and phrases
of the senses used by the writer.
Sight: The yellow paint was peeling off the walls in strips and bubbles exposing the greyish wall
beneath.
Smell: I felt another faint stir of air, this time from that second door, and there was the strong smell of
mice.
Hear: The battered, deep brown wood floors creaked as I stepped farther in.
Touch: I stepped into the room and coughed at the musty, mildewy smell that felt like it was already
clogging my throat.
Taste: I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox..Forgive me they were delicious, so sweet and so
cold.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!”—
Merely this and nothing more.
