CASE STUDY INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT

INTRODUCTION

A decade ago, Apple was on the edge of bankruptcy but now Apple became one of the well
known brands. Apple now is trying to improve their products and services by innovating their
products and also finding creative ideas that have been gone for the past 20 years. For the
upcoming unique feature of Apple's for any competitive advantages is the idea is coming
from the user and the customer not Apple employees. The company is encouraging the
consumer by creating a product from the consumer to sell to the consumer to make it a new
trend into the business world. Below are a few examples of Apple’s product.

❖ Iphone - Iphone is a smartphone made by Apple that combines a computer, iPod,

digital camera and cellular phone into one device with a touchscreen interface. The
iPhone runs the iOS operating system.
❖ Ipad - iPad is a touchscreen tablet PC made by Apple. They run Apple's iOS mobile
operating system and have Wi-Fi connectivity with optional 4G capabilities.
❖ Macbook - The MacBook is a line of Macintosh laptop computers designed by Apple.
The MacBook line consists of the original MacBook, the MacBook Pro , and the
MacBook Air. The MacBook lineup came from the merging of the PowerBook and
iBook lines as Apple transitioned over to using Intel instead of PowerPC processors.
❖ Ipod - An iPod is a portable MP3 and media player developed by Apple and available
for the Mac and PC. The iPod is capable of holding up to 10,000 songs, is easy to
use, and is very portable. Also, many iPod users use Apple iTunes to purchase and
download songs.

QUESTION 1

Yes, I agree that three applications, which are Apple's iTunes , iPhone applications , and
iPad applications gave the company competitive advantages. The proof is when the
statistics show that 32.3 billion iPhone users have downloaded more applications than the
other smartphone users. There is one reason that we couldn't deny it, which is that most of
the people love to use or have an Apple’s product because their apps run smoothly for the
user to use and it gives an excellent experience to the user. Because of Apple's dominance
in the digital technology market, it somehow triggered other competitors. Such as Android,
they need to think of new ideas on how they can beat Apple's company instead of creating
new applications since Apple’s already winning all the user hearts. For example Siri. Siri is a
built-in, voice-controlled personal assistant available for Apple users. It is one of the most
amazing apps that exist in this modern world because it allows users to complete any task
without looking at their phones and also the user can multitask and be more efficient while
doing their job daily.

QUESTION 2

The data and information of the user is very important to Apple because they wanted to
understand what the user liked and what the user wanted to see any improvements on the
products. The data can be collected to see how many people are purchasing the music or
applications onto their iphones and ipad rather than downloading illegaly. The reasons why
keeping all the information of their user is because they care about their user for an example
(lost photos, music or documents) the iCloud would be able to back up or restore all the data
to Apple’s product So all the data are safe on that cloud and the user will be happy and will
stick using Apple’s product but the customer might leave to another android if android or any
smartphone if they have the same or the better feature like Apple did. Apple needs a lot of
knowledge about the human mind because they need to be able to compete in the long run.
So if there’s any problem while using the iPhone they will eventually get a solution to fix the
new problem as they already know more knowledge of previously reported problems.

QUESTION 3

Porter's Five Forces is an analysis model that we used to evaluate an organisation's position
and competitive standing by analysing five 'forces' in the industry. Also centred on the idea
that there are five essential factors that determine the competitive environment of an
industry. Apple has been really successful in the technology marketplace and also known as
the industry leader and currently received as one of the world's most valuable companies. In
2018 Apple became the first US company that reached a market capitalization in excess of
1 trillion dollars as an achievement towards their innovation, marketing strategies and
growing brand loyalty. Using Porter's five forces can show us how Apple remains as industry
leader in the technology space instead of Google, Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft and
moreover.

Firstly, the threat of substitution for Apple’s product is quite low due to limited capabilities of
substitutes. For example Google’s photos are better than iCloud photos because using the
google photos could save the photos from the risk of hardware failure, we also could easily
access our entire library from anywhere. Next is , Threat of the new entrant, Apples will face
a lot of challenges upon establishment such as Google, Amazon with large financial and
investment poor can easily compete with Apple. Threat of the new entrants is moderate
forces for Apple due to the high costs of developing and setting up a new competitor brand,
even though certain large companies have the capability of doing so. The third is Industry
competition. These types of companies such as “ amazon , google and moreover are
aggressive like Apple when it comes to innovations, development of new products and
marketing even though Apple has a strong industry competitive force. Fourth, Supplier
bargaining power. This model highlights the suppliers hold in imposing their demand on
organisation which is relatively low in Apple. The last one is, Buyer bargaining power. This
force is low when we consider only individual bargaining powers but high when we consider
customer’s collective bargaining power. This could have big impacts for Apple when an
existing customer switches to another brand, however, this can reduce Apple's market share
and upgrade that competitor. This is a strong force of information to potential buyers.
Nowadays, customers can easily access information about a variety of products' features,
customer reviews, and information. Apple needs to go through constant investment in
research and development, which has led to development of various products unique only to
Apple, such as Airpods and the Apple watch, while maintaining the customer loyalty and
attracting new customers at the same time.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, after doing this case study it helps ensure that the organisation gets the right
technology at the right time so it can meet its key performance indicators and get the
transformation goals and objectives whether those are improving customer service or
developing new revenue streams. We can see the statistics of Apple and how they work to
become successful and leading in the technology world. Also they always prioritise their
customer ideas and listen to their feedback about their products and keep improving day by
day to achieve the satisfactions of the user. Apple Company have flexible in their
management procedure to a level of allowing creativity and innovation. This has resulted in
the development of a culture that tends to distance itself from authoritarian kind of
leadership.
