Most of the employees/staff as well as the clients in the hospitality sector come from different nations
and they therefore have some cultural differences. This has made it necessary for leaders and managers
to accept this issue and take it as an opportunity no matter the cost that may be involved.

However, there have been contentious issues associated with cultural diversity for instance the
maintenance of fairness among employees, ways of ensuring that every member contributes to the best
limit and more so to ensure that the diverse workforce work together to achieve common goals of an
organization. Hospitality industry has grown global with the expansion of international hospitality being
in the rise.

This has led to growth of immigrant labor and minority employees have ventured into the industry’s
workforce. This necessitates that the hospitality industry take strategic actions to deal with the changing
trend to ensure that the challenge does not affect the industry negatively.

Being a service industry that mostly deals with foreign relations, hospitality industry is mostly touched by
the aspect of cultural diversity as compared to other sectors of the economy and hence the growing
concern.

Gaining more knowledge about diversity empowers you to confront bias and discrimination. I have a
responsibility to use my knowledge as a minority to combat any bias or prejudice that I may encounter.
They might not have shared my experiences, thus they might have formed opinions that lead them to
believe things that are biased. I'm the kind of person that will always defend my position, therefore a
little disagreement never damaged anyone.

For instance, I would have to question the rationale of the head of my company or work unit if they ever
stated that the next available post will be reserved for someone who is African-American,
Hispanic/Latino, gay, lesbian, or bisexual, or someone with a disability. Regardless of color, sexual
orientation, handicap, or any other non-job-related trait, the best candidate for the position should be
given it.
