CBT Training

Computer-based training can transform

student pass rates
Students take on more knowledge when they are properly engaged with
the learning materials. That’s just one of the benefits of computer-based
training.

What is computer-based training?

Computer-based training (CBT) refers to computer software that is used to teach students. Instead of learning
from books or classroom-only tuition, students are guided through their syllabus with a selection of computer-
based materials – typically a mix of videos, animated diagrams, quizzes and case studies.

CBT can also take the form of revision platforms such as an online question bank like BGSonline, where students
set themselves mock exams using a vast database of questions.

What are the benefits of CBT?

CBT makes learning more interactive and immersive. And when the learning materials are engaging, students are
more likely to click with their studies. In short: CBT makes learning memorable. Another big benefit of CBT is it
gives your school a cohesive platform for offering remote learning. With many CBT platforms accessible online and
offline, and also compatible with multiple devices, students can learn anytime, anywhere. Studying at the pace,
place and time that enables them to focus and make progress.

How can you implement CBT?

The first option is to create your own proprietary CBT platform. Something that reflects the way you feel flight
theory should be taught. However, that can require a lot of time and money. The alternative is to license one of
the platforms that is already available. CBTs vary in cost and licensing terms. But once you have decided on the
platform that’s right for your school, implementation tends to be easy – with students accessing their course
materials either online or via software installed on their devices.

ATPdigital – created by Bristol Groundschool – was the world’s first CBT for flight theory. With thought provoking
learning materials that are regularly updated, it contains all the knowledge needed to turn today’s students into
tomorrow’s pilots.

An introduction to MRS

An introduction to managed reporting

systems
Managed reporting systems give you a dashboard view of how each
student is progressing with their studies.

How does it work?

Your school’s reputation depends on your student pass
rates. What if you had access to a dashboard view of
how each of your students was progressing with their
studies? Some CBT platforms include a managed
reporting system (MRS). It gives you the ability to see
how far each student is into their studies, how many
lessons they have completed, how much time they
have studied and more – with the ability for instructors
to add notes on student files.

Armed with that knowledge, you can shape learning

experiences that are unique to each student. Zero
in on the areas where individual students could do
with extra tuition. Set mock exams on areas where
a little more understanding is needed. All without
endless paper tests, paperwork or filing. It means you
can be confident that each student is gathering a
deep understanding of the syllabus as they progress,
boosting their chances of acing their exams first time.

Online tuition

From the classroom to the cloud

When your classroom lives in the cloud, you can teach students anywhere
in the world.

Sometimes there’s no substitute for the classroom. No substitute for receiving expert insight from a
knowledgeable instructor. And when the classroom lives in the cloud, your students can take their next lesson
anytime, anywhere.

Record your classroom sessions, share them online and you can build a repository of knowledge that your students
– both present and future – can access anytime. It’s a great way for your students to learn from your instructors,
without needing to visit your school in person.

If you lack the in-house resource for teaching theory, you can still utilise video-based learning. Bristol
Groundschool’s video library has over 200 hours of ATPL videos, hosted by world-renowned instructors.

“We had the opportunity to run a few courses requiring training material from various providers. I am
not exaggerating saying that Bristol Groundschool has been the best by far! To start with the material is
of high standards and has been easy for our instructors to explain and for our students to understand.
Finally, I would say the most important aspect of BGS is the support we have received from your
organisation. All our requests and questions have been answered clearly and promptly, no matter if it
was a bank holiday or out of office hours.”
Christos Tsitsos,
Head of Training, Crew Academy

“The trust our company has shown over the years in BGS is a strong indicator of the high quality fo BGS’s
products and services – from computer-based and printed training materials through to interactive videos
and sample exams. BGS’s support and guidance has been thorough and timely, whether for day-to-day
enquiries or more significant issues.

We would highly recommend BGS to any future client. They have provided the training resources and
expertise to successfully meet our requests on every occasion.”
Christina Elena Christa,
Global Aviation SA, Greece

“We have been a partner of Bristol Groundschool since we opened our flight school in 2009. We chose
to use their training material because of their reputation in the industry and also personal knowledge
of their system. Based on our experience and student exam results, we are very happy and will
continue to choose Bristol GS for our students!

We highly recommend flight schools to partner with Bristol Groundschool and use their high-quality
training material.”
Isabella Herl,

“We are pleased to express our utmost satisfaction with Bristol BGS as our chosen ATPL material
provider. Their unwavering loyalty to delivering top-notch resources, coupled with excellent
cooperation and communication, has significantly contributed to the success of our training programs
at Royal Flight Center. Working with Bristol BGS has been a true pleasure, and I highly recommend
their services to anyone seeking quality and reliability in ATPL materials.”
Dr. George Chrysostomou
Chief Executive Officer, Royal Flight Academy

“In 2020, Malta School of Flying entrusted Bristol Groundschool to provide ATPL theoretical material for
our advanced student pilot cadets. Since partnering with BGS, our TKIs and students have only given
praise regarding the quality of the material and the presentation style of the lessons. BGS has maintained
a professional after-sales service, always ensuring that we as an ATO and our students are satisfied. Their
technical support team have also always assisted with any matter that arose.
I would have no hesitation in recommending BGS to any ATO that would be looking for a professional,
friendly and dedicated group of people to provide them with a first class service for their ATPL students.”
