Material

* Wool „Catania“ by Schachenmayr (50 grams = 125m length):


Nr. 130; Nr. 383; Nr. 435; (no more than 1 ball each)
* 2,5mm hook or 3mm hook (see „general information“)
* Stitch marker
* Scissors
* Yarn sewing needle
* Stuffing
* Leftover yarn in black for the eyes and red for the heart

Abbreviations

* MR: Magic Ring * rd: round


* ch: chain stitch * hdc : half double crochet
* st: stitch * dc: double crochet
* sl st: slipstitch * inc: increase (2 sc in one st)
* sc: single crochet * dec: decrease ( 2 sc together)

General information

* The individual body parts are crocheted in spiral rounds.


* The pattern is designed so that you can crochet both: a „Comforter“ or a „Stuffed toy“.
* For a „Comforter“, I used a 3mm hook for the body so that it becomes fluffy.
* For the „Stuffed toy“, I used a 2,5mm hook throughout the pattern.

* Stuff the head well. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining stitches to sew the
hole closed.

20. Crochet the last round as follows:

* 8sc, dec, hdc


* in the next stitch: dc, ch1, dc
* hdc, 5sc, dec, hdc
* in the next stitch: dc, ch1, dc
* hdc, 5sc, dec, hdc
* in the next stitch: dc, ch1, dc
* hdc, 5sc, dec, 8sc, dec

* End with a slip stitch and cut the thread long enough. You will need it later to sew the
hood on the head.

Connection of hood and head

* Place the hood around the head and sew it all around with the tread.

The body / 2,5mm or 3mm hook / Colour Nr. 435

* Crochet with a 3mm hook, if you want your penguin to be a „Comforter“.


* Crochet with a 2,5mm hook, if you want your penguin to be a „Stuffed toy“.

* If you are crocheting the „Stuffed toy“, stuff the body as much as you like. Then, flatten
the bottom of your work and crochet a row of sc through both layers to close.
* If you are crocheting a „Comforter“, do not stuff: flatten the bottom of your work and
crochet a row of sc through both layers to close.
* Cut the thread and fasten off.

* Cut the thread long enough, pull it through the remaining stitches and the entire fin so
that the thread comes out on the other side.

The webbed feet / 2,5mm hook / Colour Nr. 383 (2x)

1. Ch 13, an then, starting from the 2nd ch from hook, make 12 sc.
2. - 6. (5 rounds) 24sc
7. On this rd, make 2 dec evenly (22)
8. 22sc
9. On this rd, make 2 dec evenly again (20)
10. -11. (2 rounds) 20sc

Seite 5
* Cut the thread about 50cm long.
* Do not pull it through the last stitch, but leave the loop.
(The loop will be needed to continue crocheting the feet directly onto the body.
* For the „Stuffed toy“, don´t forget to stuff the feet lightly.

Completion

* Sew the head in the middle of the body.

* Put the fins directly to the right and left of the head and sew them on with firm stitches.

* Crochet the webbed feet onto the body with sc:

- Stitch through both stitches from the foot and through the stitches from the body.

- Get the thread and pull it through all the stitches lying on the hook.

Seite 6
* Embroider the little beak in the middle of the face with colour nr. 383.
* Use black yarn to make a line over 4 stitches for the eyes.
* You may dab some blush on the cheeks.
* Embroider two red stitches on a stitch of the front of the body to create a little heart.
