Lid Line Scroll Operator Training Module

A scroll/slitter machine is a type of machine used to convert /slit sheet


materials so they can be cut down into desired pre-scrolled cut intended for auto
press machine use.
As a scroll operator, your main responsibility is to produced quality pre-
scrolled and straight cut needed in press process of lids/ends.

How to Operate Scroll Machine?

Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Loading of Materials
- Ensure the correct of position of the sheets. This action aids the operator to
identify the inside and outside of the sheets.
- Inspect the production tag of the supplied materials
- Check if the material has Released Tag, Hold Tag or Recovery Tag and
verify if the pallet no. is similar to the written number in Tin Information Sheet of the
material.

2. Operation
2.1 Pre-production
2.1.1 Machine/Equipment Cleaning
- A clean machine is essential for preventing contamination, maintaining
product quality, and ensuring safety. Clean the machine thoroughly, especially on
the contact surfaces.
2.1.2 Lubrication Check
- Check the lubrication assembly if the lubricant supply is on optimal level. If
not, request lubricant and fill the container on its optimal level.
2.1.3 Double Sheet Detector Test
- Ensure that the Double Sheet sensor is working properly. If not, inform scroll
mechanic.
2.1.4 Emergency Stop Test
- Inspect if the Emergency Stop (E-stop) is working to avoid further damages
after abnormality.
2.1.5 No Obstruction
- Secure that there will be no obstruction on the passage of the strips.
2.1.6 Perform Trial Run
- Perform trial run, inspect the strips’ registration and visual appearance. If the
trial run is OK, start mass production. If not, inform immediate superior for any
abnormalities
2.2 During Production
2.2.1 Strip Checking
- Regularly check the produced strip. Examine the appearance, registration,
squareness, and burr of the strip. If there are irregularities, perform corrective action.
Otherwise, continue production.
2.2.2 Checklist
- Always fill-out the checklist provided for record purposes.
2.2.3 Downtime
- In problem occurs, perform necessary action. If the problem still persists,
approach the scroll mechanic.
2.2.3 Finished Goods
- Secure safety gloves before pulling out the produced strips.
- Tightly secure the skid to avoid any accident during storage or transportation
of skid.
- Create Production Tag. Provide the information needed to avoid
misunderstanding in preceding production.
2.3 Post-production
- Clean the area. The machine must be clean before endorsing to the next
shift.
- Ensure that all the checklist has been filled out correctly and accurately.
- Fill the lubrication assembly on its optimal level.
- Endorse all important details (e.g. downtime, machine condition, materials
used etc,) to the next shift

3. Changeover
In case of changeover, perform line clearing and complete Scroll line
clearance form.
3.1 Line Clearing
- Remove all the traces of the previous materials. Ensure that there will be no
foreign sheets or materials to avoid production issues and customer complaints.
3.2 Line Clearance Form
- Fill-out the clearance form and seek certification from the immediate. The
machine will not run without the authorization of the immediate superior.
