Show the complete solution (include all units of measurement and the required conversion factors) to each of
the following problems. Enclose the final numerical answer (round-off the final answer to the correct number of
significant figures) in a box.
A 25.00 mL sample of a household cleaning solution was diluted to 250.0 mL in a volumetric flask. A
50.00 mL aliquot of this solution required 40.38 mL of 0.2506 M HCl to reach a bromocresol green
end point. Calculate the %(w/v) NH3 in the sample. Molar Mass NH3 = 17.04
NH3 (aq). +. HCl(aq). -à NH4Cl(aq)

(Assume that all the alkalinity results from the NH3 present in the sample.)

Step 1. Calculate the amount (mole) analyte, ammonia (NH3) in the aliquot portion. (6 pts)

Step 2. Calculate the total amount (mole) of the analyte, ammonia (NH3) in the volumetric flask VF.
(10 pts)

Step 3. Calculate mass (g) NH3 in the VF = mass (g) NH3 in the sample (10 pts)

Step 4. Calculate the %(w/v) NH3 (M.M. = 17.04) in the sample. (10 pts)
