TITLE: Volumetric Analysis (Acid- Base Titration)

AIM: To determine the concentration of a hydrochloric acid solution

APPARATUS: Beakers, Erlenmeyer flask (conical flask) filter funnel, Burette, 25cm3 Pipette,
Dropper, White tile, Distilled water, 0.5M sodium hydroxide, Hydrochloric acid solution,
indicator.

DIAGRAM:

PROCEDURE:

Wash the burette thoroughly with a liquid detergent. Wash it with tap water, then with distilled
water and finally rinse it with the standard sodium hydroxide solution. Fill burette to a
convenient graduation mark with the 0.5M sodium hydroxide. Record this initial burette reading.

Pipette 25.0cm3 of the hydrochloric acid solution into a clean conical flask and 1-2 drops of
indicator. Add the standard sodium hydroxide solution from the burette until the end-point is
reached. Record the burette reading.

Repeat the titration as many times as convenient until consecutive burette readings differ by no
more than +/- 0.20cm3.
