This lab experiment aimed to investigate how pulse rate changes with exercise. The method involved taking pulse rates at rest over 1 minute intervals twice and calculating the average, then performing jumping jacks for 2 minutes and recording the pulse rate at 1 minute intervals as it returned to normal. Results were to compare pulse rates at rest versus during exercise, and plot a graph of pulse rate over time after exercise. The discussion was to explain what a pulse is, the effect of exercise on pulse rate, and why it increased with exercise and remained high after.

Aim: To investigate how pulse rate changes with exercise.
Skill: ORR
Apparatus: Stop clock
Method: 1. Take your pulse at rest (for 1 min.)
2. Repeat this twice. Record results in a table 3. Calculate the average pulse rate at rest. 4. Do jumping Jacks for 2 minutes. Then immediately check your pulse rate at one-minute intervals until it returns to normal. Record this in a table Results: (i) Compare the pulse rate at rest with the pulse rate during exercise. (ii) Plot a graph of time versus pulse rate after exercise. Discussion: (iii) In your discussion explain: - What is a pulse? - The effect of exercise on pulse rate. - Why did a change in pulse rate increase during exercise and remained high immediately after exercise? Reflection: What you learned? How does this affect society? Improvements or changes that could be made to the experiment
