III. DEFINITIONS:
Whiskers: Specialized hair that grows near the mouth.

Aestivation: Summer sleep of animals

Hibernation: Winter sleep of animals

Nocturnal: Animals which are active at night can see things better in
dark.

Echolocation: It is sending sound waves. When the sound waves hit an


object, they produce echoes. The echo bounces off the object and
returns to the ears
IV. NOTES:
• Animals also take rest and sleep.
• They need sleep to regain energy and regulate body temperature.
• Small animals like bats sleep more than large animals like
elephant and giraffes.
• Small animals require more energy.
• Some animals like frog, snakes sleep for long time in winters to
avoid cold are hibernating animals.
• Some animals like crocodile, snail sleep for long time in summer in
cold and shady places called aestivating animals.
• Giraffe sleeps for not more than 2 hours.
• Sloth sleeps for 10-15 hours a day.

Q. Sometimes singers put their hand on their ears while singing.


Why?

Ans) They do this so that they can concentrate on their voice and get to know if
they are going in the wrong pitch. This helps them to sing better.
