1. How do you see tribology as a subject?

How can you apply this in your professional

career in the future?
- Tribology, often known as the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion, is the
study of friction, wear, lubrication, and bearing design. It includes various
fundamental engineering subjects such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, lubricant
chemistry, material science and heat transfer. For me, as a mechanical engineering
student, I see tribology as an essential subject as most of these said subjects are my
major subjects or the subjects that I truly need to grasp and understand to become an
excellent mechanical engineer in the future. Furthermore, the field that I want to be a
part of in the future is the design field of mechanical engineering. I can apply the
knowledge I have acquired in tribology by utilizing the concepts I have learned and
applying it in designing various mechanical machines to make them functional and
exceptional.

2. Why did you choose Mechanical Engineering as your undergraduate degree?

- I chose Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate degree because machines pique
my interest. I became interested in machines when we had a school project that
assigned us to make a machine that works just by using scrap materials. In this said
project, our machine required us to use a dynamo motor. I asked my father why we
can’t use a regular motor and then he explained to me why it is not possible to use a
regular motor. And from then on, I have been fascinated by machines and their inner
workings. Additionally, another reason why I want to become a mechanical engineer
is because my father is also a mechanical engineer, and he is one of my inspirations.
Lastly, opportunities for mechanical engineers are very wide because mechanical
engineering encompasses various engineering fields and is versatile. A mechanical
engineer may be in the field of combustion and fuels, innovation and design, project
management, robotics, aeronautics, control systems, etc. For me, mechanical
engineering is the best and most practical choice I have without having to sacrifice
one of my passions which is machines.

3. What specific field of Mechanical Engineering do you want to pursue after graduating
and passing the licensure examinations? Explain why.
- I want to pursue the automotive field of mechanical engineering because I find the
automotive industry (cars, motors, trains, etc.) intriguing and challenging. In my
current mechanical engineering journey, I am really fascinated by combustion
engineering. I find it fascinating because I get to understand the mechanism and inner
workings of an engine and the process of how fuel (chemical energy) turns into a
series of mechanical energy used to power an engine. However, I am really struggling
with machine elements and design. These two subjects are very crucial in the
automotive industry as they both tackle fundamental principles needed to design a
functional engine. I chose the automotive industry even though I am struggling with
machine elements and design because I want to challenge myself to do better in
machine design while also working on my knowledge and skills in combustion
engineering. Through automotive design, I get to ignite my passion for combustion
engineering while overcoming my difficulties with machine design. Another reason
why I chose the automotive industry is because I want to design and develop cars or
engines that will solve the modern problems we have with automobiles and improve
their systems and mechanisms.

4. Are you planning on working abroad as an engineer in the future? Explain why yes or no.
- Yes, I am planning to work abroad as an engineer in the future because opportunities
here in the Philippines are very limited and there are more versatile opportunities and
better career benefits and salaries abroad. Furthermore, I believe that the working
conditions here in the Philippines are very unideal and unfair on the part of the
workers. Additionally, it is very difficult to find a job here because there is only a
limited number of job offerings with a salary that can sustain your and/or your
family’s needs. Especially now with how the inflation rate in our country increases at
such an alarming rate, the assigned amount of salary given to Filipino workers is not
enough to compensate for the everyday expenses and growing necessities of one
person, let alone a family. Lastly, I am planning to work abroad as an engineer
because I want to live abroad because the living conditions here, just like the working
conditions, are unideal and personally, I think it is unsafe anymore to live here in the
Philippines.
