After the national independence of our people, the desire to address the spiritual heritage of our ancestors,
to restore our age-old values has intensified. Over the centuries, there has been a growing interest in
studying examples of folklore that have been passed down from generation to generation, from mouth to
mouth. A peculiar view of the revival of our national traditions associated with religious beliefs, which
are the product of the archaic artistic thinking of our ancestors, has emerged in the written literature. In
their works, our writers began to use the traditions of our ancestors, examples of oral art in the
interpretation of national identity. Folklore, which had served as the cradle of original literature, again
expanded its vital function and began to perform its own poetic functions in individual creativity.
Professor B.Sarimsakov was the first to study the artistic interpretation of folklore motifs and plots in
written literary works in the context of the typology and classification of folklorisms.1 The scientist calls
the elements of folklore used in a work of art by the term folklore. B. Sarimsakov divides folklorisms into
two groups as simple and complex folklorisms. Tursunova's scientific articles and dissertations were
further developed1.
The influence of folklore on written literature has always been a hot topic in Uzbek literature. "Drama of
Hamza and folklore"2 by Professor G. Jalolov, "Traditions of folklore in the poetry of Hamid Olimjon"3
by Academician N. Karimov, "Hamza and folklore"4 by Professor G. Muminov, O. Sabirov's "Folklore in
the works of Oybek"5, S. Askarov's "Some issues of folklore in the works of Qodiri", M. Amilova's
"Askad Mukhtor's"6 Chinar novel and folklore ", O. Safarov's"7 Folklore and children's literature "are
among the important researches in this area. .
In the monograph "Myth and artistic thinking" published in 2019 by folklorist J. Eshonkulov, new views
were expressed on the myth and its role in the poetics of modern world prose.
In the recent period, Uzbek literature is also developing research on the inclusion of folklore plots in the
content of stories. In particular, the literary critic M. Otajonova's research on the role of mythological
plots in the stories of Asad Dilmurod in the artistic interpretation of the psyche and problems of the
period was created1. The scholar claims that Asad Dilmurod "created an example of contextual
mythology" by reworking an ancient mythological plot. The concept of mythology, discussed in the

article, is one of the simplest folklorisms put forward by Professor B. Sarimsakov.
M.Khalilov in the article1 "The role of folklore in the development of our prose" G.Gulam's story "Shum
bola", Olmas Umarbekov's "Sevgim sevgilim", "Odam bo’lish qiyin" legends about devotion and duty,
O.Hashimov's "Spring will not return" The role of folklore traditions in the development of modern prose,
the role of artists in the development of individual style and artistic skills.
The role of folklore in twentieth-century Uzbek prose is also studied in the dissertation of A. Ergashev,
who conducted research on the role of legends in the compositional construction of the plot of a work of
art2. The research discusses issues such as the narrative and its poetic function in the formation of the
composition of the work of art, the relationship between the story and the plot of the work of art, the role
of the narrator in the formation of the plot.
D.Kuvvatova's monograph on the study of folklore traditions in Uzbek science fiction explores the role,
significance and artistic functions of folklore motifs in Uzbek science fiction works1. He drew new
conclusions about the reflection of folk imagination in individual creativity.
Literary scholar Sh. Doniyorova's dissertation examined the issues of "artistic and methodological
specificity of Shukur Kholmirzaev's stories1." In this study, the originality of the local calorie hero and the
use of folklore traditions in the creation of national character is an in-depth study of the writer's individual
style. Olima Sh. Holmirzaev's stories such as "Ozodlik", "Jarga uchgan odam", "Ota yurt" are studied. In
these stories, the issues of creating the national spirit and national character of the Uzbek people are
studied. In the author's stories, the researcher carefully examines the interior, the living quarters of the
protagonists, the national identity of the image of the place, the customs and rituals of the people
portrayed, and their worldview.
Researcher of Uzbek detective prose Sh. Suleymanov's dissertation was also devoted to the influence of
folklore on the development of detective prose1.
In the recent period, Uzbek literature has done a lot to determine the relationship between the works of
Isajon Sultan and folklore. In particular, the author's artistic discoveries using elements of folklore are not
only thought-provoking and thought-provoking images, but also the processing of magical methods of
folk art, which is the cradle of written literature, in the product of individual creativity. A clear proof of
this can be seen in the dissertation of the researcher N.Sh. Tosheva on "The poetic function of elements of
folklore in modern Uzbek prose1 (on the example of the prose of Isajon Sultan)." In his dissertation, the
researcher chose the novels of the writer Isajon Sultan as the object of research. In this study, the author
also dwells on the role of folklore in the Uzbek written literature. According to him, the research
conducted by Uzbek literary critics on the relationship between folklore and written literature can be
divided into the following two groups:
1. The study of classical literature and folklore;
2. The study of modern literature and folklore.
The research work carried out in the framework of the study of modern literature and folklore relations
was again divided into subgroups in terms of literary types: a) research on the role of folklorisms in prose
works; b) research on the artistic functions of folklore in poetry; c) research on the creative development
and stylization of folklore in dramatic works1. this dissertation contains the author's observations on the
stories of Isajon Sultan. In particular, the second chapter of the dissertation is devoted to the story of
Isajon Sultan. The first chapter of this chapter discusses the role of folklore in the poetics of the story.
According to the researcher, there are more than forty stories of Isajon Sultan, in almost all of which we
find elements of folklore, and according to this, the writer classifies his stories as follows:
1. Symbolic images based on mythology;
2. Fairy-tale composition;
3. The arrival of narrations in the story;
4. Use of proverbs in the story;
5. The influence of epics on the plot of the story;

6. Reflection of customs and traditions in the story1.
Consequently, the study of the place and significance of folklore, especially mythologisms, in the stories
of Isajon Sultan requires special research.
So, we summarize our views on the study of modern Uzbek written literature and folklore as follows:
1. The study of the influence of folklore on written literature in Uzbek literature has been studied by
Uzbek literary critics of the twentieth century. In this regard, the research conducted by G. Jalolov, G.
Muminov, B. Sarimsakov, I. Yormatov, J. Eshankulov served as a program for researchers of the next
period;
2. The elements of folklore used in written literature in Uzbek literature are referred to as folklorisms,
and the most perfect classification in this regard was created by Professor B.Sarimsakov. Theoretical
conclusions in the work of subsequent researchers were obtained as a result of relying on the
theoretical views of B. Sarimsakov.
3. Determining the place of folklore in modern Uzbek written literature requires a careful examination of
the creative laboratory of each individual artist.
