trend patterns in Nigeria, descriptive statistics tables, percentages, bar charts and time series chart
were used to analyse gas flaring activities of different oil organizations from 2003 to 2012. Based on
the adverse effects of flared gas, the Nigerian government has renewed and improved its efforts to
reduce or eliminate gas flaring through the application of natural gas utilisation techniques. The paper
adopts the Centre-Periphery Dependency Theory as its theoretical foundation for the comparative
analysis. Gone are the days when “tattooing” for cosmetology reasons were seen as an alien culture,

Petrochemical Plants Natural gas is most times cited as “clean burning” because it produces fewer
undesirable by-products per unit energy than coal or oil. The study also made use of secondary data
sourced from books, journals, conference papers and official documents from the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the
World Bank, Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFRP), the Nigerian Extractive Industries
Transparency Initiative (NEITI), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), and the Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN). Multiple requests from the same IP address are counted as one view. These values
portray a good omen for these communities under investigation. In this paper, we have considered
the concept of gas flaring; the reasons why gas flaring remains prevalent in Nigeria; global indices
on gas flaring; the harmful effects of gas flaring on the environment, health and economy of the
nation. The study concluded that there is no specific legal framework that prohibits gas flaring in
Nigeria in spite of the environmental problems associated with it. GGFR Technology Overview:
Utilization of Small-Scale Associated Gas; World Bank: Washington, DC, USA, 2018; Available
online: (accessed on 12 June 2021). This study focused on the assessment of the impact of oil joint
venture partnerships on the enforcement of zero-gas flaring policy in Nigeria. The recommendations
were: (i) restructuring the equity arrangements of the oil joint venture partners in order to effectively
implement zero-gas flaring policy, (ii) reforming the budgeting process of the joint venture operators
for adopting effective gas flaring elimination strategies, and (iii) sufficient funding of NNPC
participation in the joint venture partnerships necessary for adequately financing associated gas
utilization projects. Further researches using the rate and volume of flared gas data, and the
vegetation species is required to achieve better results. A qualitative research method is used, which
is suitable when exploring a new phenomenon. Shell and Chevron have developed large-scale GTL
projects in Qatar (Oryx and Pearl) and Nigeria (Escravos GTL). Such a price increase will be
favourable for pipelines relative to LNG. However, the focus of this study will be on the utilisation
of ANG, which is gas associated with oil in the reservoir. This result shows a surface temperature
elevation of about 1.8 o C above mean normal daily temperature within a distance of 400 m radius
away from the flare point. The reduction in gas flaring is however due to certain policy interventions
put in place by the Nigerian government to utilize gas. This informed the choice of three natural gas
utilisation processes, liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas to wire (GTW), and gas to methanol (GTM),
which appear to have the greatest potential economic significance. The results show that even for
high tax rates and discount rates, the project is still profitable yielding positive NPV and IRR with
low payout times. The study concluded that there is no specific legal framework that prohibits gas
flaring in Nigeria in spite of the environmental problems associated with it. Setting a flare phase out
deadline had proved unproductive. This article critically analyse and evaluate the National Energy
Policy 2003 as a legislative Instrument in tackling gas flaring in Nigeria. Natural gas-fired thermal
power plants may cut CO 2 by 81%, NOx by 8%, and SO 2 and fine particle emissions by 100%.
The study relied on primary and secondary sources of information. The major environmental
implications considered in this study are environmental pollution, and ecological disturbance or
destruction.

to be strongly integrated with other policies that promote development. Compared to GTL, GTM
produces fewer carbon emissions and has less energy loss. This factor may have a considerable
impact on all utilisation options because it is difficult to guarantee stable supply volume of a specific
ANG from a specific field. Apart from being wastage of valuable resources, this practice runs
contrary to Nigeria’s obligations to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under, inter alia, the
1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The
facility should also be designed to ensure export capability and to compress wet and dehydrated gas
