The power of feminism DRAFT

FINAL OUTCOME PHOTO …

Introduction

My project began from when we were given the chance to choose our own
subthemes with the focus around the idea of Power, by illustrating our own
beliefs and experiences. The power of feminism at the time was what I most
identified and was curious about knowing more due to the uprise of female
protesting and social issues bringing awareness. During my development
process I was captured by exploring different disciplines, of mixing and
experimenting with colours, mediums and effects. By bringing the thought of
using composition into my art pieces such as using complimentary colours ...
The materials I mainly used were fabrics, paper and paint to create a
combination of both, it improved my desire to work with textiles to find out
how each material blended with each other. This led me to explore collage
making and painting, such as the many mixed-media experiments with
watercolour, acrylics and pens. I loved using old family photographs and
primary images of the people around me to use as references to my paintings
as it enlightened me, giving the work a sense of comfort and nostalgia.

Theme and outcome development

My main theme began with exploring power, further into the theme of
feminism. Over the year I was exposed to a variety of techniques and
researched fascinating artists works and ideas which made a significant
improvement to my work. I decided to explore the inequality within society as I
understand that we all contribute to functional communities and without
women who fought for a change in patriotic systems the World would not have
changed to a better living and liberty. I wanted to share how power has
brought individuals to an intellectual level of communication therefore
resulting in modern ideologies to the recent generations and even the laws of
equal rights.
In the beginning of the project, I set out to explore the negative side of being
stuck in male chauvinist environments where most women had lost their raw
identities. My intention was to transmit shock and awareness to show the
consequences of inequality. However, later into the course of research, I
wanted to portray to the viewers the positive outlook of the effects of abusive
relationships whilst also connotating to the negative side of the theme.
Evaluation

My final outcome is a message of how we have evolved since the starting point of
traditional systems, showing how women have learnt to let go of emotional attachments.
Amongst the past generations the exposure of patriotic systems were highly valued,
disregarding most womanly acts, creating a conflicted relationship between men and
women. The oppression of women was on the uprise, linking Black, trans and indigenous
communities to suffering. During the process of making ! researched about before the
beginning of social media and how power, has caused emotional damage, consequently
affecting the behaviour of the Gen Z and Alpha. In ways, resulting in the lack of self-
confidence and force to combat inequality in abusive relations that have erose from social
structural theory. Proposed by Eagly and Wood, the division of labour by gender drives all
other gender differences in behaviour. This questionable perspective has been passed
down, allowing women and disadvantaged groups to create resistance to better improve
their status and image in society. Although still today, I feel as if we have become
attached to the opinions of trends, in general, women may base their looks and
personalities on the likes of men, creating a society deprived from their own way of being.
I wanted the diversity of my outcome to represent a breakthrough stereotypes with the
various designs and patterns, not only subject to one medium, but an expansion in
acknowledging different forms of artwork. There is an exploration between the
connections of gender, environmental justice, and the struggle to address the power
structures of threat in politics. (RE/SISTERS). I wanted to research and implement into my
work how women and other oppressed communities are at the core of these battlegrounds,
not only as victims of dispossession but also as protagonists of the resistance.
