Read these guidelines for Speaking assessment taken from the National
Curriculum:

B1)

Teachers are given the following general guidelines:

1. Teachers need to build rapport to make students comfortable.

2. Teachers need to complete the task with individual students.

3. Each student must be given 2-3 minutes to think about his or her responses.

4. Teachers should assess learners on the following criteria:

● Speak confidently in different contexts.


● Add relevant details while justifying your own point of view.
● Use standard English.

B2)

Teachers are given the following, more specific areas for assessment of
learners’ speaking:

● Expression (tone, fluency, intonation) /3


● Relevant details (quality of content) /3
● Grammatically correct English /4

Note: In case of children with disabilities criteria for assessing listening and
speaking will be adapted accordingly.
