Growth is defined as an irreversible increase in size(height,arm length,foot length)

Development is the change in body functions or progressive acquisition of various skill abilities such as
head support,speaking,learning,expression, felling and relaxing with others .

Growth is permanent while development can be permanent or temporal.

Importance of assessing growth and development

The assessment of growth and development is important in finding out the state of health of a child.
Continuous normal growth and development indicate a good state of health in the child and or
abnormal growth or growth failure in a child.

A child genetically determined to grow tall will grow more rapidly than a child genetically determined to
be short. A child genetically determined to be clever develops intellect more rapidly than a child
genetically determined to be less intelligent. Children are advised to consume more proteineous food
because it the development of the growth hormone in them.
