Sheet 3: TCP/IP Layers & Protocols

1. Assign True or False for the following statements and correct faults if exist:
a. IP is a connectionless, host-to-host protocol with error checking and tracking
facilities.
b. Datagrams should arrive in sequence and not to be duplicated.
c. RARP protocol is used to find the physical address of the node when its Internet
address is known.
d. ICMP sends query and error reporting messages.
e. UDP is a process-to-process protocol with no error checking nor tracking.
f. TCP is a connectionless protocol.
g. In TCP/IP model, the transport layer is represented in IP and UDP protocols.
h. IP is a process-to-process protocol while TCP/UDP is a host-to-host protocol.
i. In physical addressing, the source address is coming before the destination
address while the reverse is true in logical and port addressing.
j. The physical address of a hop in a LAN changes when it communicates with a
hop in another LAN while logical and port addresses don’t change.

2. Match the following protocols to the suitable TCP/IP layers and the used
addressing types:
a. ARP, RARP and ICMP.
b. UDP and TCP.
c. IP.
d. FTP, HTTP and TELNET.

3. A hop A in a network LAN-1 ,whose physical address 70H and logical address AA,
has three running processes whose port addresses are K, L, M. This hop sends data
packet from process L to a process of a port address X running in a hop F whose
physical address 99H and logical address FF in a network LAN-3. The
communication between the two hops is through an intermediate network LAN-2
using two routers whose input/output physical addresses are 65H/11H and
42H/33H respectively. Draw a sketch showing the contents of the packets travel
from the sender A to the destination F through all TCP/IP layers.
