The White Horse of Alih

1. Biography of the Author- Emigdio Alvarez Enriquez was born on the year 1925. He
is a Filipino by birth. He started writing at the age of 20. He is a novelist, story writer,
and playwright. Among his famous literary works are: Blood on the Moon, A Tale of
Two Houses, Cachil Kudarat (Sultan of Mindanao) or Cachil Corrala, and Labaw,
Donggon. All of this short stories won Palanca awards in the year.

 Setting- The story happened on July 4th in a city with a parade of people at the plaza.

Fermina- a Christian girl who served drinks
 Plot
Exposition- A town celebrating the Fourth of July is where the story started.
In search of his brother Omar, Alih. They were supposed to carry out their
plans on that day. They intend to murder those participating in the march. Alih
stepped away from the group and sat down beneath the Balete Tree. He
thought back on his history while he sat. Growing up and becoming an adult

Rising Action- He saw a float carrying a woman he thought was Fermina. He


approached the float and helped the girl down to the ground. As he was ready
to give everything he had to the girl, he noticed a small black mole on the
corner of the girl's mouth and realized that she was Fermina. To his surprise,
Omar arrived while drunk and tipsy. He found that Omar had been drinking
tuba the entire time. Fermina's murder by Omar was close.

Falling Action: Despite their preparations to get Alih the white horse so he
could save Fermina, Alih kills his brother.

Climax: When Omar jumped, his sword came flying out of his pockets,
causing fright and fear. People avoided Omar by running. Fermina also
attempted to run away but her clothing became caught. Omar killed
individuals by swiping his blade around. Then Omar proceeded to murder
Fermina. Alih pulled out his own blade and defended Fermina after realizing
that his love was in danger.

Resolution: After the incident, a number of assumptions were made. Some


claimed that Alih killed his brother because he had become insane. However,
the truth is that Alih had lost interest in his white horse.

On the fourth of July, in a city with a parade of people. Alih and his brother planned
to kill those people. But Alih was inlove with Fermina and he saw his brother near to the float
and he protect Fermina because Omar was about to kill her. In the end Alih kills his own
brother.
