UDE CHIDIEBERE EMMANUELLA

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I wasn't a particularly good student, but I wasn't a bad one either. The only thing I knew was that
my academic performance needed to be better. I didn't have a lot of friends because I was a
recluse, but I would help anyone in need, even if I didn't know them. I tried so hard to absorb
everything, especially the math, but I just couldn't do it. Never give up was a lesson I had
learned. One area, English language and phonetics, was all I was average at. In nursery school,
I remember being introduced to even and odd numbers, and I was the only one who did not
understand them. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to understand what was being said. I did
not like the way I felt because I had never felt so foolish in my life. I vowed to myself that I would
never experience that feeling again. I tried to calculate numbers more quickly while watching
various educational channels, and as time went on, I realized that I was getting there but wasn't
quite there. When I entered first grade, I kept putting effort into improving.

One day, no one was able to respond to the general question my teacher posed during mental
math class. Everyone appeared lost when I turned to look around. When I reread the question, I
realized that I had already found a solution while watching Mindset Grade 1 Mathematics. I
quickly blurted out the solution after solving the puzzle. For a while, my teacher looked at me as
if I had just said the silliest thing imaginable. I wanted the ground to just open up and swallow
me. Instead, my teacher told the entire class to applaud me. She presented me with a gift and
advised me to continue. I felt so ecstatic and confident that I could achieve anything I set my
mind to. To improve at them, I began to practice various mathematical problems. I gave each
subject my all-out effort in an effort to excel in nearly all of them.

I started to enjoy music at the same time and started playing the violin and piano. Playing the
instruments always allowed me to maintain my composure and stay focused. At the conclusion
of first grade, I finished third in my class. It felt great because I had never before won a prize in
front of a crowd. As my classes advanced, I continued to diligently study, and I was the top
graduating sixth grader. I was accepted into Holy Child College, a prestigious Catholic
institution, where I made friends with a number of other intelligent women. I began studying with
them and continued to put my all into my academics. I took part in a variety of events and
extracurricular activities that the school offered. From Jss1 to SS3, I and a few other members
of my set and other sets received the distinction of being Grade A Honor List students.

I've met a variety of people from various racial and ethnic backgrounds during my time at Holy
Child College. I've made friends with reliable people and have had the chance to explore all of
friendship's facets. About myself and other people, I've discovered new things. I've developed
greater tolerance for other people, an awareness of their viewpoints on current issues, and the
ability to resist being swayed by them. I'm happy with who I've become as a person because of
the faith I had in both God and myself, which has enabled me to make improvements. I've
realized how accepting diversity and keeping an open mind have broadened my outlook and
perspective. It has helped me understand the value of empathy and the significance of
respecting the opinions and experiences of others. I work to uphold a solid sense of self as I
develop while remaining open to fresh viewpoints and ideas.

I love every subject the science-related course has to offer, especially engineering, but I would
like to specialize in Biomedical Engineering. I grew up watching different medical TV shows like
The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, and New Amsterdam. I loved the way the medical doctors
and nurses carried themselves. I loved the lab coats and scrubs they always wore in the
hospital. Most of all, I was fascinated with the different machines used for treatments. I love the
concept of applying engineering principles to medicine and biology to be able to solve biological
and medical problems and also develop new health care devices and equipment that can be
used to improve human health care.

I've observed that the medical supplies used in hospitals in my neighborhood are of poor quality
because they are made by unqualified workers. The devices are then not able to diagnose,
treat, and rehabilitate illnesses and diseases in a safe and effective way. Sometimes, the
devices are not properly maintained or inspected on a regular basis, which can lead to incorrect
diagnosis, incorrect prescriptions, and decreased asset performance.

I want to be able to further my education so as to gain more knowledge and insight into
biomedical engineering so that I can be able to solve these problems. I want to be able to use
the skills I acquire to create innovations that improve human healthcare. I want to be able to
invent standard devices that hospitals can use to treat patients. I want to ensure that devices
invented are properly taken care of, maintained, and regularly inspected. I want to be able to do
something so great that it will give this institution, where I have decided to further my education,
a great name as well as my country.

I am not sure yet whether I wish to return to my home country because I want to be able to work
in the United States because of the various resources available to the medical industry. In my
home country, the medical industry is still developing and lacks the advanced technologies and
research opportunities that the United States offers. Additionally, working in the United States
would provide me with exposure to a diverse patient population, allowing me to gain valuable
experience treating a wide range of medical conditions. Moreover, staying in the United States
will also allow me to establish a strong professional network and collaborate with experts in the
field, which can further enhance my knowledge and skills. Furthermore, the United States has a
well-established healthcare system that prioritizes patient care and safety, providing me with the
opportunity to learn best practices and contribute to improving healthcare outcomes globally.
