    TYPES OF STATISTICAL INFERENCE

    ESTIMATION

    Estimation is the process of data usage which is used to estimate a population parameter. A
    point estimator is a single value that is used to estimate the parameter

    2 kinds of Estimation

    1. Point Estimation

    o Point estimation is a method applied to estimate the parameters of the population.


    Parameters like the mean (μ) or standard deviation (σ), using sample data can be estimated
    here.

    2. Interval Estimation

    o Interval estimation gives a range (interval) of values that might contain the population
    parameter.

    o It is expressed with a level of confidence always.

    HYPOTHESIS TESTING

    Hypothesis testing is the process of data utilization to test a hypothesis about a population. A
    hypothesis is a statement about a population parameter.
