Impact of Lack of Sleep on The Person's Mental Health

Emotional, psychological, and social well-being are all aspects of mental health. It influences our
thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It also influences how we manage stress, interact with others, and make
good decisions. Sleep deprivation happens when an individual does not obtain the amount of sleep that
they require. Sleep deprivation can be caused by a variety of reasons including lifestyle, employment, and
environmental exposure. Sleep disorders and other chronic medical issues can both induce sleep
deprivation.

Poor or insufficient sleep has been associated to increased negative emotional responses to
events as well as diminished pleasant feelings. You might have trouble learning, concentrating, or
reacting. You may also have difficulty judging the emotions and reactions of others. Sleep deprivation
might also make you feel annoyed, irritable, or concerned in social situations. Students may become
furious and impetuous, experience mood swings, be melancholy or depressed, or lack ambition. They may
also struggle to pay attention, have worse marks, and experience tension.

Many people can prevent sleep deprivation simply by adjusting their sleep-related
behaviors and pre-sleep routine. Some medications can even change the way a person dreams,
making it less likely that they’ll have severe nightmares or other sleep disturbances. However,
many sleep-inducing medications can be habit-forming, so healthcare providers prescribe these
cautiously.
