MENTAL HEALTH DURING SELF-ISOLATION

One of the most important things for humans is the interactions and sharing with others

but first, why is it so important? Mental health includes a person's emotional, psychological and

social well-being. It also determines how a human being handles stress, relates to others, and

makes decisions. The lack of mental health can be the cause of many disorders, and at the same

time has several consequences, but it can also be treated with various methods. But first of all,

what is mental health?

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects the

way we think, feel and act when we face life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate

to others, and make decisions. Mental health is important at all stages of life, from childhood and

adolescence to adulthood and old age. And as social beings, isolation can have various

repercussions.

Isolation carries repercussions such as cognitive impairment, depression, stress, social

anxiety, anger, lack of patience, post-traumatic stress disorder. At the same time, it can have

great consequences for all kinds of people, but mainly in young people who are in their

development. Social isolation significantly increases a person's risk of dying prematurely from

all causes, a risk that could rival that of smoking, obesity and physical inactivity. Social isolation

was associated with a nearly 50% increased risk of dementia, while loneliness was associated

with higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide. Loneliness in heart failure patients was
associated with nearly 4-fold increased risk of death. Isolation can be a bit difficult to deal with

but there are also different self-care methods for it.

To manage this social isolation in the best possible way, it is advisable to adopt a series

of self-care routines that keep us busy and promote our physical and mental health. From the

Association for Self-Care of Health (anefp) we give you some advice. Set a sleep schedule. Try

to always get up and go to bed at the same time to maintain a proper sleep habit. Do sports. Take

advantage of the multiple platforms and online tutorials to do physical exercise. There are many

options and your body and mind will thank you. Eat a balanced diet. Avoid sugary and high-fat

foods, opt for fruits and vegetables, and try not to eat between meals. Read a book or learn new

skills. In addition to entertaining yourself, you will be favoring concentration and improving

memory. Care for your skin. Even if you're at home, your skin still needs the same care as

before. Therefore, continue moisturizing it as usual and using the right products to keep it in

perfect condition. -Avoid toxic habits. In this situation in which you have to take care of yourself

more than ever, eliminating habits such as tobacco becomes essential. Don't forget your personal

relationships. Although you cannot physically see your loved ones, new technologies facilitate

continuous contact with them. A photo, a message or a call can make you feel very animated.

In conclusion, mental health during isolation is very important for every human being.

first of all to know what mental health is, as well as the consequences of not having it and how
