A pinkish earthworm that ate the hito hito no mi.

Personality

He is an earthworm that idolized base humans and

hates variants to that race. He liked to paint as
well as buy groceries. He could subsist by
swallowing and extracting nutrients from dirt, but
he liked to shop for groceries such as vegetables
to feel more human.

Overview

Hugh Man was the captain of the Hito pirates, a

pirate crew notable for its wide inBuence. It was
believed by his crew that he is the pinnacle of
humanity. He had absolute authority over his crew
and was successful enough to operate in both
Paradise and the West Blue. He was also trusted
by several marines to manage certain operations.
He had a +9 to wisdom saves. He awakened his
fruit 120 hitpoints into his Ight.

Hugh Man has all of the abilities of an earthworm

such as burrowing, regeneration of lost segments,
and a muscular frame that can 10 times its own
body weight.

Hito Hito no mi

Hugh Man was proIcient in the use of his devil

fruit, developing abilities analogous to those of a
later user. During his Inal Ight, he awakened his
fruit.

History

Hugh man hatched from a cocoon that his father

had fertilized with either some of his own sperm or
another earthworm's. He then went about his life,
crawling through and eating dirt. By his account,
he always idolized humans.

At least 10 years before the start of Marines, Hugh

Man ate the Hito Hito no mi. He became ecstatic
and started up the Hito pirates. He apparently had
an arrangement with the marines near his region,
where he would be allowed to continue his actions
while they turned a blind eye or even indulged in
his services.

After coming back to his island being destroyed,

he engaged Branch 101 in battle. During the Ight,
he awakened his fruit, only to be killed by Taiga.

Earthworms are hermaphrodites.

Earthworms are some of the only
invertebrates with a closed circulatory system,
making them similar to humans.
Hugh Man is the Irst invertebrate known to
have eaten a devil fruit, including in the main
series.
Hugh Man has several things which make him
contrast with Tony Tony Chopper. While
Chopper's fruit led to him being ostracized by
several people, Hugh Man's allowed him to
perfectly integrate with humans, speciIcally
those who were prejudiced. Chopper is mostly
seen as an animal whereas Hugh Man is
mostly seen as a human. Chopper is a person
who will treat even enemies for diseases,
whereas Hugh Man is preoccupied with
genocide against people simply for existing.
Chopper is cute and hairy, whereas Hugh Man
is gross and hairless. Chopper is naive and
kind, but Hugh Man is wise and hateful.
Chopper likes eating sweets, whereas Hugh
Man likes eating vegetables.
