For us to know the interrelationship between culture and society

is, can you give us a concrete example of a Filipino culture in

our society that you still practice in your daily living and share
it in the discussions board below.
Let us see who among your classmates shares the same practice
with you.

I live with my grandmother in our house located on her family compound and our neighbors are
my lola’s siblings. I grew up practicing Filipino cultures with my big family starting from my great grand
mother to her great grandchildren, like me. As a big family, we like celebrating even the simplest to
grandest occasions together. The men in our family butcher pigs, chickens, and goats while the women
in our family cook them. We also cook Filipino desserts like kalamay, pinindot, and sinukmani. As a
member of our big family, I help with the preparation for our handaan and celebrate with them after.
We celebrate our occasions until dawn with a videoke. On my daily living as a Filipino, the culture I
practice the most is respecting the elders. I call the people older than me “lola, lolo, kuya, ate, tito, tita”
whenever I talk to them with adding “po” and “opo” on my responses. I was raised with learnings of
respect, inspired by our Filipino culture. I believe that sharing this culture not only to myself but with my
family as well is the essence of being a true Filipino. In the Philippines we value family, and I very much
do.
