RTÉ Staff One World Fund..

The RTÉ Staff One World Fund is an aid fund for sustainable community-based projects in
developing countries. It was founded in 1984 by a group of RTÉ staff as a response to the
suffering they saw during the Ethiopian famine. The purpose of the Fund is to enhance the
living conditions of communities in the poorest areas of the world.

The OWF is funded entirely by staff donations and all funding goes directly to the chosen
projects. The fund focuses on development projects; those projects capable of sustaining
themselves after the period of the OWF’s support had ended .

Examples of previous projects are:

 Water collection and storage systems

 Latrines and community hygiene education
 Establishment of seed banks, market gardens and animal husbandry
 Small-scale irrigation projects
 Support for community based health care, health education and training
 Sustainable small-enterprise development and employment creation schemes in rural and
urban areas
 Skills training linked to local employment opportunities, particularly for women, street
children and the disabled

The fund is operated entirely on a voluntary basis by RTÉ employees, past and present,
through the One World Fund Committee and funding is raised through discretionary donations
made via RTÉ salary or pension deductions at source.

Operating expenses are NIL and the fund is aided in its work by RTÉ providing access to salary
deduction facilities, printing, postage and accommodation.
