Safety instructions 2
2.1 Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the
secure operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is
necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial
security concept. Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems,
machines and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected
to an enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary
and only when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation)
are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please
visit (https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity).
Siemens' products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more
secure. Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are
available and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no
longer supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customers' exposure to
cyber threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS
Feed visit (https://www.siemens.com/cert).

Requirements
• When installing the fiber-optic cable, make sure the bending radius is not less than
permitted:
– IE FC FO Robust cable GP (6XV1843-2R): 90 mm (single), 135 mm (multi)
– SM Cord LC/LC (6XV1843-5FH10-0AA0): 42 mm
• The maximum lengths of the fiber-optic cables are as follows:
– IE FC FO Robust cable GP (6XV1843-2R): 20 km
– SM Cord LC/LC (6XV1843-5FH10-0AA0): 20 km
• When the interface module is the last device of the fiber-optic cable network, the
unoccupied fiber-optic cable interface must be closed with a blanking plug. When the
modules ship, the blanking plugs are inserted in the PROFINET sockets of the BusAdapter.

Procedure
To connect PROFINET IO to the PROFINET device via the BusAdapter BA 2xLC-LD, follow these
steps:
1. Plug the BusAdapter BA 2xLC-LD into the PROFINET device.
2. Screw the BusAdapter BA 2xLC-LD to the PROFINET device (1 screw with 0.25 Nm
tightening torque). To do this, use a screwdriver with a 3 to 3.5 mm blade, alternatively
TX10.
3. Remove the blanking plugs from the PROFINET sockets.
4. Hold the prepared connector by the housing. Insert it into the PROFINET socket on the
BusAdapter BA 2xLC-LD until you hear it click into place. The coding of the connectors
ensures a safe connection.

CAUTION
The BusAdapter/synchronization module contains a laser system and is classified as
a "CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT" in accordance with IEC 60825-1.
Can cause personal injury.
Avoid direct eye contact with the laser beam. Do not open the housing. Read the
information in the system manual
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/84133942) carefully.

Reusing used fiber-optic cables

NOTE
Shorten both fiber-optic cores by the damaged lengths and reassemble the connectors. This
will prevent any attenuation losses due to the heavily stressed portions of the fiber-optic
cores.

Fiber type and shape of the fiber end

NOTE
When setting up an optical connection, note the following:
• Use the single-mode fiber type
• Use appropriate shape of the fiber end:
– PC (Physical Contact): Flat, rounded, polished fiber end
– UPC (Ultra Physical Contact): Flat, rounded, highly polished fiber end
