Chapter One

Why do we fall in love? This question has been on my mind for a while. Why do we get our hopes up
for a guy that probably doesn’t care about us. In truth… It’s because of his smile… the way each time
he looks at me my face goes red. It’s a strange feeling. How do you really know you’re in love with
him or if you’re just crushing on him. I know because I love Will. He’s goofy personality, His smile and
his weird music all made me madly in love with him. I never really thought love was real. More like
fiction people create to make their lives more exciting. Well, I believe my life was always exciting…
just without the equation of Will being added.

“Miss Dayna, what was my question” I looked up at Mr Evans scrunching my nose trying to figure out
the answer. I searched the board wishing I had X-ray vision, so I look through him and see the answer.

To Mr Evans’ satisfaction, I gave up, “Maybe next time, you should be listening”.

Will leaned over to me, “Yea Dayna, you should’ve been listening” He mocked.

“Oh, shut it” I whispered over to him.

“Whatever shorty” He leaned back into his seat, playing a game on his phone to pass the time.

I rolled my eyes and looked out the window, rain droplets slowly rolling down. I watched each one
race to the bottom of the window. Finally, the bell rang, in unison, everyone packed up their stuff
ignoring Mr Evan yelling after us about the homework.

I ran over squealing to my best friend, “FINALLY THE WEEKEND!”.

She flicked her brown curly hair, “I thought this day would never end.”

We linked our arms together skipping down the hall walking down the steps and into the rain. Our
wide-brimmed hats shelter us from the rain but sadly our supposed school ‘rain jackets’ were
soaked. Lacy and I walked past the many boys crowded around a gutter that splashed out water, each
boy having a turn ducking through it. No one batted an eye; this was normal for St Rubius. It was
normal for boys to act like complete morons.

While packing up my books and bags lacy catches me up on the gossip that happened. Without
missing a beat, Will hit my locker and without missing a beat I turned around yelling after him. It was
a repetitive cycle that happened every day, he never forgot to hit my locker and I never forgot to yell
after him.

Lacy gave a disapproving look, “He’s always annoying you; don’t you remember in year two when he
though bark at you every single lunch break?”

“Then when I asked him why he did it, all he had to say was ‘woof’’, I chuckled.

“Hey Lace, how are you doing darling?”, Caleb chilled against my locker. Lacey swooning over his act,
I don’t think she ever realises that he acts like this to every girl. She tucked a strand of hair behind
her ear before laughing at one of his stupid jokes.

“Hey Country boy, isn’t it time for you to feed your cattle”, I sarcastically smiled.

“Isn’t it time for you to get a better attitude sweetheart?” He glared and continued talking to lacey.
I slammed my locker and swung my bag onto my shoulder making my grand exit. I slowly walked over
to the bus stop street, well known as 7 stop street. Known for its seven undercover businesses being
run around that area. I slid my earphones on allowing the music to make my life a little bit happier. I
ballerina turned in the rain, kicking and splashing in the puddles. I danced out of the school gate
walking over to Wills’ bus stop business. He sat down on a covered sit waiting for customers, his
shaggy hair covering his bright blue eyes.

“Hey Weirdo, no customers?” I giggled while placing my bag beside me.

“Nope, though it seems as though Tommy’s weed biscuits are selling out quick, want me to buy one
for you?”, He smiled sarcastically while fixing his hair. The line of people snaked around the bus stop

“Oh yea, what about you? We both know how much of a future druggie you are” I smiled trying to
lighten the mood.

He chuckled, leaning his head back into the metal seat. “I heard you were going for the lead role for
Mean Girls, I really think the role of Regina George really suits you”.

“Ha ha , you’re so funny, maybe you should go for Janice because you always have a stick up your-” I
smile seeing him chuckle.

He put his finger to my mouth trying to shush me, “Language! that’s not the St Rubius way!” he
pretended to scold me.

“No, I’m going for Cady”, I smugly replied.

“Is it because of your hair” He pulled on my ponytail to show me.

“You little-” I picked up a piece of paper and rolled it up so I could whack him over the head.

“Hey Pals !” Wills mother pulled up next to our bus stop rolling down the window reminding you of a
2000s Rom- Con. After Wills mom left to pursue a guy she met on a three week holiday, his
replacement mum is trying to be a ‘ cool mum’
I sat there staring outside of the window trying to avoid looking at anyone. My bag took up one seat
and the other me. I wore my school shirt that unflattering and made me look like an ironing board.
My skirt was faded but still had a nice navy colour. I couldn’t wait until I got home so I got to pig out
and watch movies; Girls in the front of the bus snickered while pointing at me. I felt an
uncomfortable chill role down my body, I hated the feeling of eyes on you. Suddenly, I heard my
phone beep; I looked down to see a lovely text from my friend telling me that I was a bitch. I wanted
to cry, I hate him, why won’t he just leave me alone? Before I was seen with tears, I randomly
stopped the bus and left. I couldn’t have sat there any longer, listening to the whispers was chipping
at me slowly. I wiped the tears out of my eyes and started to walk. I didn’t know where I was going or
what I was going to do. I continuously walked until I was close to home. Cars raced passed me as I
quietly sobbed not being able to hold it in.

I heard a car pull to a stop and a car door open. I wanted to run but everything in my life felt
meaningless. I heard a crunch of leaves next to me; I looked up to see an unfamiliar face. His hair was
blondish red with small freckles across. He wore a navy uniform that was crisp and green. Then
finally everything clicked.

“Oli……. Is that you?” I try to say while sobbing.

“It’s the one and only” He chuckled while flashing me a goofy smile.

I pulled him close to me feeling the happiest I have ever been in a few weeks. I can’t believe it, he’s
here. I cried in his arms, I held onto him for dear life not knowing if this was real.

“I thought you would never come…. back” My voice croaked as I wiped tears that rolled down my
face.

I looked up to see him crying as well but just a small tear though.

“Why are you here I thought you be at home?” I questioned him

“Needed a change of scenery,” I smiled and hugged him tighter.
